On 3 June, 2013, Monday, as a part of project Hataymalo: Plastic Minimization, Civilized Urbanization, one day workshop on Plastic Minimization was held at Kathmandu Barsha Higher Secondary School, Tinkune, Kathmandu. Students from grade 8 and 9 actively participated in the program. The program was organized by The Nature Conservancy Nepal (TNCN), Kathmandu University (KU), in association with  South Asian Youth Environmental Network (SAYEN) Centre for Environmental Education (CEE)and supported by TUNZA Eco Generation.

The program started with the introduction of the volunteers and organizing team followed by presentation about the plastics and its impact upon human health and environment. Students diverted all their attentions as they came to know plastic was invented in 1860 AD and was known as Bakelite. Students came to know about the types and properties of plastics. The well informed group of students showed their enthusiasm on answering the questions related to the plastics and its effects as well. As they knew plastics contribute to global warming, the interactive discussion took place between the students and volunteers. Students also provided suggestions on what we can do to avoid the use of plastic bags. The students were also shown the video from which they learned even more and introduced the slogan," change ourselves and live in harmony with nature."The 8 and 9 graders applauded once again for the good news of Nepal government to Bann the use of plastic bags from 15 June, 2013 and to penalize Rs. 500 if found doing so.

Afterwards students were divided into five different groups along with facilitators. They were given 30 minutes to prepare their presentation in provided chart sheet. Each of the five different groups had to portray their plan of action for minimization of plastics. Each group was given different categories for the plan of action for minimization of plastics as in individual level, in family, in community, in club and in school respectively.

Each of the group presented well in front of the mass, they came up with new ideas and plans. The concepts were innovative and well applicable. They also committed to follow the rules made by the government and discourage use of plastics from their individual level and inspire their family as well.

After the students finished respective presentation, the 10th Eco Gen Ambassador (Nepal) of TUNZA Eco Generation Pratap Maharjan handed over token of love to Mr. Govinda (In charge) and successfully concluded the program. The entire program ended after a group photo session and on a good note of trying to make the school a plastic free zone. The students also planned to organize events to disseminate information they got about plastic minimization to their juniors and organize a rally or public event very soon.

The program was successful as everyone contributed their point of views, ideas, concepts and plans. The students and teachers actively participated in the program to make it a big success. As the students wanted these kind of programs to be held over time and again, the organizing team promised to join the school for another cause again in near future. The students even thanked the organizing team for giving them the platform to explore their ideas.
