Korea Suffering from Serious Drought

by | 14-02-2016 15:16 recommendations 0

Drought is a natural disaster that happens when the loss of water that has evaporated into the sky is bigger than rainfall. Droughts usually last shortly, for about one season. But if they become longer, they can last for more than 10 years. But because its progression is gradual and it may not be visible, it is hard to investigate it systematically. Korea is currently going through a serious drought and has already experienced a lot of damage.

The damage of drought has an effect not only of crops but also on our lives. When drought begins, the lands start to dry out and water becomes scarce. Because of the dry water and lack of water, many crops die out. For example, many Korean farmers grow rice plants, so they need a lot of rain and water. 55% of Korea?s annual rainfall is usually the rain that comes during June, July, and August the rice plant farming season. However, if the rainfall decreases by half, it becomes hard to keep the rice plants alive.

As mentioned before, Korea is now going through a serious drought. And it is getting worse because of the El Nino phenomenon. El Nino occurs when water temperature increases and when the amount of rising cold sea water decreases. The effects of the El Nino are low-temperature in the summer, and high-temperature in the winter, but Korea wasn?t experiencing it extremely. However, the problem starts when the cold atmosphere from the North Pole passes through Korea. Because of the dry and cold atmosphere, Korea suffers a terrible drought in the winter. This is actually because of global warming that the air from North Pole passes by, and this winter is becoming one of the worst because the El Nino and shortage of rainfall have overlapped.

Sad to know about drought in Korea. Likewise many other parts of the world are facing nature's brunt. Nature is teaching us lesson that we should live in harmony with it . It's high time-we should be nature friendly to avoid nature's fury. I hope and pray that Korea gets rid of this situation soon and without sufferings. God bless Korea

Some solutions should be found soon to face the problem. Drought area needs to find water source which could be used to fix the conditions of soil and all organisms lived there. Best solution according to me based on my experience when I was in north Australia is building a dam in the area. The dam can contain rain water in wet season. In north Australia the dam is used to provide water for cattle in dry season. Maybe we can use it to face the drought in Korea. Water bored also can be used as the alternative solution. We are as youth should be creative, innovative and have our own solutions to face all environmental problems towards our environment. Nice article :)
