Car free Day Saving Carbon Footprint

by | 15-02-2016 20:07 recommendations 0

Remember guys! In its Seventh year now. The Car free day in Dubai shall be observed on 21-Feb-16. Dubai Municipality encourages the members of public to leave their car home & use public transport to go to their work place.

Organized under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohamed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Crown Prince of Dubai, the Director General [DG] of the Dubai Municipality His Excellency Eng. Hussain Nasser Lootah reaffirmed the intentions of the City of Dubai to be the Number 1 environmentally friendly city in the world.  This goal will be achieved by adopting innovative sustainable solutions to the environmental challenges facing Dubai, particularly air pollution and global warming impacts caused by the increasing emissions from cars.  The implementation of real and effective community participation from various sectors is essential for the success of this initiative.

This initiative was kicked off in 2010 by the current DG. The crown prince of Dubai supported this initiative in 2015 & it gathered momentum. The first time it was supported by 2 companies & last it the participation swelled to 300. This time 1,000 companies are targeted for this event. This will reduce a great amount of carbon footprint.

A novel way named Cycle for a Shake was adopted to encourage & support this event. Stationary bikes were hooked up to blenders at Kite Beach on Sunday with onlookers invited to pedal their way to creating a free treat. It was launched on 07-Feb & will go on till 21st. It is open from 3pm to 8pm on weekdays and on weekends, 8am to 11am then 3pm to 8pm.

I encourage all UAE readers to Cycle for a shake & also join the Car free day on 21-Feb-16

These events generate awareness regarding pollution and encourages the citizens to adopt a greener life style. Although life may seem difficult at first for these very citizens, soon this event will be celebrated in the long run when people get used to it. I really hope this becomes implemented in Bangladesh as well.
