Plastic is necessity in daily life, as it was easy to manufacture and impervious to water. Nowadays, the use of plastic is a concern for all over the world. Time to degradable plastic is a problem, thus made industries try to produce more degradable plastic bags. But still plastic bags are crucial and important in our daily life.

A new regulation made by Indonesia government, in term to minimize plastic, is too paid for plastic bags in supermarket. Before this rule implementation, plastic bag in supermarket in Indonesia is all free. No matter how many plastic bags given to you by them, you don?t have to pay for it.

Started from February 21st, the regulation is implementation in some cities in Indonesia such as Jakarta, Surabaya, and Balikpapan. The minimal price of plastic bag is Rp200,00 or about $0,014. It was really cheap, considering the purpose of the regulation. Many of Indonesia people also think it was really cheap and want the government to raise the price. A good response from people to starts implementation in other cities to.

On the other side, many of customers of supermarket are having no problem to pay for plastic bags. The cheap price is one of the causes. But there are also some buyers who also choose to put in their purchases in their own bag because only shopping in small amount. In supermarket, the cashier also ask the customer whatever they want to use plastic bag or their own shopping bag.

Another great impact of this regulation is ?say no to plastic bags? action. In some city, this action started by using tote-bag in daily life, instead of plastic bags. Let?s do this action to in our life too!

Hello, Dewi! The same approach is also being done on some places here in the Philippines. In addition to that, utilization of paper (i.e. paper bags and paper straws) is becoming prevalent. And I can say that it is very effective. Thank you for sharing this one! These kind of articles are really fun to read as we can see how such movements lead us to a better future. :)

Dewi, carrying one's own shopping bag is a great idea, and this is also shown in our country as well. Renewable bags that can replace plastic bag, is called as 'eco bag', and even has turned into a fashion trend nowadays. I suppose these behavior can stop people using more plastic bags. Moreover, taxing people on using plastic bag is a necessary regulation, which should be done in all parts of the world. Thanks for posting, and keep up the good work :-)

I really like this move of putting a price tag to use plastic bags. I feel they should increase the price further to discourage people for plastics. Let's say strong NO to Plastics. It's so simple to carry your own jute/reusable bag. Thanks for the report.

Hi Dewi, thanks for the report. To share status quo of where I live, South Korea, plastic bag cannot be given free, it's against the law. And now eco bag has become a popular trend. I also was given an eco bag several days ago at some event. Though, sometimes I wonder how much material they need to produce that large amount of eco bags..

This is a good one. I am of the opinion that f the price of the plastic bag is raised to a significant amount, people will learn to reuse their plastic bags. Nice one really.
