How India is embracing renewable sources of Energy

Hey There! I am sorry for the delay as my annual examinations are going on and therefore couldn't meet the deadline for uploading the article. This article primarily highlights on how India is embracing and  renewable sources of energy.

It was unimaginable to think of electricity in a small village of Hardoi, a district in western Uttar Pradesh, but now things are changing.

Companies that are based on renewable energy have tried to bring in a clean and reliable solution to these remote villages. The first solar power plant was set up in Jangaon village (in Hardoi district) three years ago. Over the years the private firms have received an overwhelming response, and today they have more than 50 plants in Uttar Pradesh.

Each plant has a capacity between 50 and 100 kWh and each has a grid about one to 5 km long. Every of the plant has about 300 ampere/ hour of storage. So when the sun is away in the evening, the batteries are charged and thus are able to give energy even after sunset. From here the energy is transferred to inverters and rectifiers and is pumped to the whole village.

There are plans for the richest individual in the village to bite sized plans for the poorest consumers there are packages that are relevant to each one.  A renewable energy ecosystem is emerging in India even as the Prime Minister of India (Narendra Modi) has announced the installation of 100 gigawatts of solar power in the country by 2022.

I believe Innovative business models will lead to increase in scale of private firms investing in renewable sources of energy and also, with the development of technology, solar energy is likely to become cheaper and more efficient. The technology of Solar Panels is robust and allows it to be integrated to the central grid based on conventional energy. The support of an enabling policy is important. Mini grids are probably the best way to reach to over three hundred million people in our country who are yearning for power.

This is all for now. Thank you for reading and I hope you liked it!

Absolutely Arushi! India is trying its best but the sad part is that politics slows down everything and makes the developments sluggish..

Nilanjan, hope you have successfully went through with your annual exams. It is a positive phenomenon that innovative companies are continuously researching for renewable energy like solar power. I hope the technology could be advanced so that all villages could have access to electricity at the price they can afford. By the way, how are these panels managed? Who pays for the panels, and how regularly are they checked for maintainence? As most of the people are ignorant about how these solar panels work, I believe there needs periodic supervision from the company or by the government. Thanks for posting, and keep up the good work :-)

Thanks for sharing India's ambitious plans and effective implementations (already done like the first solar power plant in Jangaon) towards renewable energy. Current PM Modi is a true environmentalist as he is campaigning for 'Clean India', 'Clean the rivers', 'Solar Energy', 'Build and use toilets for sanitation' just to name few. With him as leader, I am sure that India will be able to achieve a lot and become one of the most sustainable countries in future. People need to co-operate with him and follow eco-friendly practices. There are lot of lucrative packages in India to go for solar energy panels at home.

Hi Nilanjan, thanks for your report. I appreciate a lot for spending time on this after the examination. I would have grumbled ceaselessly if i were you haha. And thank you again for showing us the bright side of how renewable energy can be more effectively used. Now, I hope you have fun! but... don't forget the next due date is in three days :D

Nice report, Nilanjan. Renewable energy systems like solar power is one of the most efficient energy that can be harnessed especially in developed countries. However, the cost of purchasing the solar cells is still a challenge which I believe will reduce with emerging technologies in the field.
