Guest Speaker in an Inspirational class

Public speaking is an interesting thing to do. It allows us to share our knowledge with other people and most of the time, it also boosts our confidence. I was a guest speaker in an inspirational class hosted by Melali Club and Ganesha homeschooling.

I spoke in front of homeschooled children and their parents about the environment such as what is the environment, why do we need to conserve the environment and what we can do to help save the environment. I also talked about my experience as a young environmentalist and promoted Tunza eco-generation.

First, I started off with introducing myself and talking about what I did as an ambassador. Then I continued on to talk about the environment. I asked the children some questions on why we should take care of our environment and their answers were brilliant.

After that, I promoted Tunza eco-generation by giving them the leaflets and stationary. When I asked who wants to join Tunza eco-generation, they were all very excited and everyone raised their hands up which made me very happy. I also talked about my experience in the Global Youth Eco Leadership Summit with them and they were all very amazed and asked me how to join. They were very enthusiastic about it. I also introduced my community Green Team Indonesia to them and spoke about what we did and still do now.

At the end of the inspirational class, I gave them a challenge to make a promise to our Earth. I asked them to write down a promise such as ?I will turn off the lights when I leave the room? and stick it somewhere in their house that they will see everyday and be reminded of the promise. Their promise were very creative and some even drew pictures of them doing the promise. I then asked some of them to come up and share their promise to everyone. One of the parents told me that she was surprised that her son would come up and talk in front of everyone because he's usually very shy.

I was so glad that it was a success and most importantly, I was glad that these children aren?t only burying their heads in their gadgets, but they also have an interest in saving the environment. These children will be the future and it?s good to know that they are aware of the environmental issues around them and are willing to help fix it.

superb work Patricia, you are right Heonjun Park educating this young generation has more impact cause they have the energy to plant trees , do campaigns and stuff like that. The earth is on the verge of destruction but we the youth and children have a chance to change all that by coming together and making a resolution to prevent climate change and global warming. When we each one of us puts in a little effort in solving global warming problems then the world would be a safer place to be in.

Thanks Patricia for posting and for promoting Tunza eco generation! Who knows? some of those kids might also join in and write reports just like you few years from now :D I think educating young children like this has bigger impact than doing campaigns for adults. They can be more sensitive to nature and could further develop their sensitivity if education and information provided! hope you keep on your good work!
