Abnormal happenings in Normal lives
Mr.X is a normal businessperson, who works at a normal company near his house. Every day, he wakes up and stands in front of the fridge for his breakfast. Then, he rides a taxi to work, and gets his morning coffee in a paper cup. For lunch, Mr.X bought hamburgers because he wanted to finish his work early. After work, he is in a hurry to go home and relax. Therefore, he takes a taxi again. When Mr.X arrived, he took a bubble bath to relive his stress.
This is an absolutely normal life for most people living in Korea. However, it is not as normal when it comes to the perspective of Earth. Let?s look at Mr.X?s normal day in Earth?s view.
Mr.X stands in front of the fridge for his breakfast. It seems pleasant to stand in front of the cool fridge. However, if it passes through the eyes of Earth, this scene gets horrible. The fridge is shooting out chlorofluorocarbon, also known as Freon gas. This gas destroys the ozone layer, and can cause skin problems. Next, when Mr.X commutes to work by taking a taxi. Well, people take taxies every day, don?t they? But the exhaust gas from cars are usually methane and diesel. They are the main causes of global warming, and causes acid rains. Additionally, they cause respiratory diseases to both people and animals. At work, Mr.X takes his morning coffee in a paper cup. Almost everyone uses at least one paper cup a day, but this can cause serious problems to Earth. To make paper cups, thousands of trees have to be cut, and forests are damaged in that process. Therefore, the amount of oxygen in the atmosphere would decrease, while toxic gases increase because of paper factories. For lunch, Mr.X buys a hamburger. This burger is indeed delicious, but the cows for the burgers are killing the Earth. Farmers have to make a place for cows to graze. But because there is not enough land, they cut down forests and even burn them to make a meadow for cows. Unlike trees, grass does not produce oxygen, so it does not give any beneficial points to Earth. Plus, cow droppings contains a great amount of methane. Therefore, the excessive amount of cows can lead to a great amount of methane in the air. Finally, Mr.X takes a bubble bath for an hour when he gets home. Taking a bubble bath can greatly improve one?s mood, but it always has its costs. This soap used for the bath makes a lot of foam, but they do not easily disappear. As a result, they hinder the reproduction of microorganisms. Also, they are the main cause of the red tide phenomenon. Moreover, the misuse of factory-made soaps during pregnancy can lead to fetal deformities.
Like this, Mr.X?s normal life became absolutely dangerous and abnormal in Earth?s view. Let?s change Mr.X?s normal day into a more eco-friendly version. Mr.X is a normal businessperson, who works at a normal company near his house. Every day, he wakes up and takes some fruits for breakfast. Then, he rides a bicycle to work, and gets his morning coffee in his personal mug. For lunch, Mr.X bought salads because it takes less time to eat than other foods. After work, he is in a hurry to go home and relax. But he cannot leave his bicycle behind, so he again rides his bicycle again. When Mr.X arrived home, he felt good because of the bike riding. He took a quick shower, and went to bed. By changing one?s daily life into this eco-friendly version, it can make things normal for both the Earth and for human beings. |

So Yeon, I really like your topic 'Abnormal Happenings in Normal Lives' it is really eye-catching. I agree that most people in urban areas live in such an un-ecofriendly way. Like how you changed Mr.X's story into a more eco-friendly version, we should keep personal cups and use recyclable lunch boxes. Riding bicycles may be difficult when one's home and business is at distance, but recently electric bikes have been on sale, and they are much faster than original bikes. Thanks for posting and have a great day!

You conveyed the message-great positive impact of eco friendly living-in such an interesting manner. I remember there is a website where such thing is shown in a video -how a family is anti-environment from morning to night , on the other hand another family always adopts eco-friendly approach in daily lifestyle from morning to bedtime. Thanks for an intersting post.
