Plastic Recycling Project: ?Suiro Project? |
---|
Plastic Recycling Project: ?Suiro Project? There is no doubt our planet can now be synonymously termed ?Plastic Planet?. With obsession for plastic rising steeply, there will come a time when we will be able to observe Plastic Island easily. With very few recycling projects running on and less consumer being eco-aware about the concept, likelihood of recycling plastic is minimum. I was once to shattered by the fact that there were no any recycling factories. Let?s say I was misinformed about recycling factory of the plastic. With some little digging and visits to local iron and plastic shops, I was able to find an excellent project and factory working exclusively for recycling of plastics. It is located at rear end of Narayanghat market which is dominated by slums. These factories collects the plastics and recycle it to make different products like chairs, home appliances, durable bags, ropes, pipe lines and likewise. The plastics are collected in suiro. It is simply a metal rod in the ?J? shape. This suiro holds the plastics very well and dries the water soaked one. This is economically beneficial as it reduces the cost of maintaining the form of the plastics. Plastics can be sold directly at factory for lesser quanity. For Corporates, industries, institutions that produces in larger quantity, factory sends its tractor/truck to collect the plastics. Usually plastics are sold at rate of Rs.40- Rs.50 per kg( i.e USD 40-45 cent per Kg). The only accepts the bigger wrappers like of Lays, surf excel , carrying bags and other commonly used bags. Owing to their limitation, small wrappers are not accepted. But no worries, as such wrappers are send to India for further recycling. This awesome initiative was carried by Rotary Club of Narayangarh, Rotaract Club of Chitwan, Chitwan Polythene Entrepreneur Association ,Rhino Club Narayangarh and Nari Abhudaya Kendra. This is one of the ongoing and very effective project. However, there is need rampant campaign to dissemitante the existence of the project and addition of new helping hands. It took me almost one and half year to meet the person in chief, the working organization and stakeholders as the project was running continuously but at slow pace and with very few staffs to managed ( as complained by one staff). Saying this, It gives me immense pleasure to realize I needn?t to worry about my plastics. |

Thank you very much Rahul.
What I would like to say is there should be a mechanism to process the small wrappers because this can cause harm and death to some livestock. Livestock that are extensively managed sometimes pickup these small wrappers when they are grazing which causes injury to them and in some cases, death.

Dear Heonjun, thanks a lot for the comment. Its really a burning issue in our localities. with no any restriction in plastic uses, I am afraid I will be one of those vulnerable species who shall be proponent of plastic alternatives. Even though i am compel to use plastics, I will now on send it for recycling.

Good to hear things are recycled there. More economic benefits to the recycling factories and industry would be so much desirable! By the way, i'm impressed by your actions to figure out how the recyclables are disposed of! thanks for writing!

Dear Rahul brother, I had been in contact with the stakeholders of Suiro project and yeah they complained about management difficulties due to fewer staffs and no desirable support from community people. Suiro project needs to be boosted in terms of outreach and management for effective recycling attitude in our local community.
Thank you for sharing dear brother :)
