Does economy economic development rhythms with sustainable development?
Economic Development is the process and policies by which a nation improves the economic, political, and social well-being of its people. The four essential elements of
Economic development are Sound Economic Institutions, Better Ways of Doing Things, trade and investments.
But Sustainable Development is a process for meeting human development goals while sustaining the ability of natural systems to continue to provide the natural resources and ecosystem services upon which the economy and society depends.
We imagine the combination of trade, investments, Sound Economic Institutions and Better Ways of Doing Things should definitely lead to a Sustainable Development status. But contradictory the most economically developed countries are the one of the most polluting countries in the world.
Actually we have signed the Paris Agreements and all the countries have decided to sustain our world, in other words the world unites in Paris to fight climate change. All the countries have understood that the most important is not Economic Development but sustainability oriented Economic Development simply because a development without sustainability is just the sacrifice of our world for capitalism.
We all hope the Paris agreements will be implement so that our future generation do not inherit a world poor in oxygen and rich in smart-phones. That will be sad.

Thank you for your comments. What a wonderful platform!!!!!
Exatly Arushi Madan, that's right we had better emcourage Sustainable economic development. That sounds as our solution if we want to reach our goal.
I therefore don't come against other ideas , thay are also have solid foundations.

This is the 'question' a lot of environmentalist had (notice I put quotations around it haha), but yeah I agree with others, we can definitely achieve bothof them unless we come up with good policies- that's why its important to have more participation from society in general. (from last conference I attended, I noticed that good ideas can come not only from policy makers and experts but also from general participants)

It actually may be a new blue market to invest! With the new global goal to aim for green, more researches and investment can be harvested and this could be a source of economic development! thanks for sharing!

I have organized a debate on this issue. What we need is sustainable development and a green economy. Probably we should all read more about green economy. We need a 50-50 balance between economic development and environmental quality. Thank you for raising this issue

Sustainable devlopment is one of the best way to save the planet, but that requires self-consciousness because everyone should be act in, contribute to keep it on. If not, it can be lees effective. Thank you for sharing

Most companies forego sustainability in favour of huge profits, and I get that. No one goes into business to make losses. However, foregoing sustainability leads to a 'one-hit-wonder' phenomenon, which is not good for businesses that plan to last over a long period of time. It's good to change with the tides. Sustainability is key in weathering economic storms.

Gallimard, I guess this is actually all nation's concern: which one should be the priority, sustainable development or economic development? Most nations, unfortunately select the latter, which resulted various environmental problems. Like what Arushi have mentioned, 'sustainable economic development' should be pursued, though it may not be easy. Thanks for sharing and have a great day!

Wonderful insight, I share your view that our future generations do not inherit a world poor in oxygen but rich with smart phones...this can be possible when we all think and work together.

I believe its possible to achieve both sustainable development and viable economic development. It all depends on the policies that are in place. This is why sustainable economic policies needs to be developed in a nation.

The two things you mention tend to clash with each other and we should learn to build the idea of a compromise, in which both aspects are obtained. When this cannot be the case, sustainability is still the option to lean towards especially as rates of biodiversity loss, air pollution, etc. are at its highest. Thank you for your report.

Sustainable economic development should be the priority of all nations and it is very much possible but for it all stakeholders must work in tandem and must agree to it's significance. All laws, policies should be in line with it. Thanks for sharing.
