In July, Obama administration held the first ever Sustainable Transportation Summit , partnerships with Department of Energy and Department of Transportation, to fight climate change, increase access to clean energy technologies, and reduce dependence on oil. Collaboration from private and federal sectors, the administration will accelerate adoption of electric vehicles in U.S.
Yesterday, the U.S. vehicle company Tesla announces its launching of Korean offices. While many major motor companies are selling electric vehicles in Korea, the infra-structure of business is still very weak. According to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, registered vehicles number at the moment is 5,767 while charging facilities are 335. This 17.1:1 ratio is very low compared to U.S.'s 6.8:1 or China's 3.8:1. The Ministry acknowledges this would be the huge obstacle for consumers who are considering Electric Vehicle purchase. The Ministry held a meeting with five major Korea's motor companies last Wednesday to promote government's intention to aid electric vehicle production and hear opinions from industry people.
Because of the charging station and the EV price, still it is difficult to spot Electric vehicles often in Korean driveway.
Having record-heat summer, still going through it, I hope the government will act on this green transportation issue with sincere intention.

It's not easy to find electronic cars in the streets of Seoul and just like you said even less charging stations! This will have to be solved soon to make the city greener. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for sharing about electric vehicles in Korea, Alberta! The lacking infrastructure is definitely one of the problems why we cannot commonly see electric cars. I have heard that the government is supporting almost the half of the price of electric vehicles, but I guess the real problem is in the lacking number of charging station.

There may not be sufficient charging stations and the price too is very high - I don't think there are EVs in west Africa but yet it is very good to note that there such sustainable developments happening in the vehicle sector.

That is a good initiative... I also think that more effort should also be put on the reduction of the usage of petroleum

Oh! so few charging stations for electric vehicles-that's not good. Then how will people feel like buying electric vehicles if proper infrastructure(sufficient charging stations) is not yet placed. Hope this is addressed on top priority. Thanks for sharing.
