Air Pollution – Mitigation

Worldwide, the menace of Air – pollution has taken a heavy toll on the mankind. The air we breathe is not pure & we do have a second choice here. Respiratory diseases, Heart attacks, deaths are on constant rise. The situation is worsening day by day, hour by hour & minute by minute. There are many causes but let us focus on measures to alleviate this peril.

The air we breathe in UAE is safer & much better than many other nations of the world but remember ?Past performance is no guarantee of future results?, therefore we must focus on extenuation of Air Pollution in our day to day lives.

Considering the above in mind me & my group decided to spread awareness by performing such actions that will combat Air – pollution in the long run. The actions we take today bring fruits in the long run. On this world environment day [05th Jun-16] we planted 50 Trees, as trees emit life-giving oxygen & are an excellent Air – Pollution buster. Most of them were Neem trees [Azadirachta indica] which emits oxygen at night also, thus checks Air – Pollution throughout its life span of several decades. I have planted trees at several other occasions each year regularly as rewarded by Emirates Environmental Group for my recycling & environmental conservation activities.

Further, on 30th Sep-16 we organized a Recycle – Thon?16 in Samnan area of Sharjah, where we managed to collect 3,056 KG of Paper, 251.50 KG Plastic & 36.50 KG Aluminum Cans. Only this effort has managed to save approximately one hundred trees. Recycling saves the landfills, saves trees & saves industrial effort to produce more. Over 40 members of my group ?Serve the Earth? contributed this much recyclable. They collected the recyclables & packed & labeled the same and carried to the venue. Then all the material was stacked separately in the villa & individual weighing was arranged. I made sure to do the accurate calculations. Soon the villa was full with the recyclables. Then we requested the members to keep their cars parked outside & we made sure to approach each family, weigh the recyclables & arrange to unload & transfer to the vehicle arranged for trasporting the recyclables to the local recycling center.

The owner of the villa Mr. Dilbag & their family was highly supportive to allow us to use their premises for the same & was elated to see so much of contribution. He remarked that I have never felt so happy to see my villa full of so many discarded Newspapers, Cans & Plastic. His brother Mr. Sanjay painted a was as Recycle - Thon and it was henceforth named as Recycle - Thon wall.

This event was supported by Beeah a leading environmental organization which targets to save landfills & encourage recycling in the UAE. They have arranged to weigh & carry the material to the local recycling center

The governments of all the nations [including UAE at the forefront which is very active in conservation of environment] is making the efforts to check the Air – Pollution so that human beings may be able to breathe fresh air without masks.

Dear readers, please imagine that an effort by 40 children can save 100 trees & how much can be achieved by our collective efforts. If we may achieve diversion of 100% waste from landfills & plant trees, the effect of Air – Pollution will dilute. Using 3 R?s [Reduce, Reuse & Recycle], encourage walking, riding bicycle, using public transport, car pool, organic products and many such measures checks & control Air – Pollution.

Please come forward & help to fight Air – Pollution.

I have planned to conduct another event to collect e-waste in Sharjah. This is my next concrete step to check Air – Pollution.

Thanks for reading.

Nice to see you being engaged, Rohan! I agree with you and other ambassadors that we cannot neglect air pollution any more. Though some areas may have cleaner air compared to other areas, we become affected by other nation's polluting activities anyways. Thus all nations need to realize the problem and cooperate. Thanks for sharing, and have a great day!

Thanks Arushi. The idea is to reciprocate this in all countries & all regions in order to achieve the desired results. Tunza Eco-Gen is a powerful platform for the same.

Air Pollution is indeed a serious concern. It is taking a growing toll on human health, the environment, and the economy. To control it, each and every stakeholder (people, organisations and government) have to take steps. We need to be mindful of our lifestyle-need to reduce chemicals based sprays, need to minimise waste, need to do everything to reduce carbon emission. Governments need to subsidise public transport, electric or hybrid cars and need to campaign for using public transport as cars/vehicles contribute majorly to air pollution. Proper exhaust norms need to be put for cars. Organisations especially factories need to have proper chimneys or exhausts or precipitators to reduce harmful gases.
Recycling and minimising waste is very important to keep a check on air pollution. I am glad that you spread awareness about the issue through your Recycle-thon and accompanied session. Keep it up. Thanks for sharing.
