Being Tunza Eco-generation ambassador to Uganda for the first time, I need to make the network known to each and every one right from children in pre-primary up to the university. This makes me so enthusiastic that I go on spreading the great ideas and the best part of the organization at my campus and you know what, whenever am traveling in a bus, my neighbors on each side of the seat can?t survive my message. I make sure people get aware of the benefits of keeping nature natural and by the time we reach our respective destinations, the person asks for my name card for the cause. And for these cause therefore, I had to schedule my first awareness environmental campaign in some of the nursery schools that had children between the age of 3 to 5 years and also awareness among children in primary schools who were between 6 to 13 years. I started this my emailing letters to the head teachers of those different schools that were first in my local jurisdiction since home is always the first place to think of before u familiar with the rest of the people outside the jurisdiction. I informed them about the cause and I also went and met them in person for more discussion. Children were just coming from the long holidays and so they had a lot to share with me.
Before I went for the event, on 25th I had to visit some of the beautiful sceneries that have been conserved and how beautiful it would be if the natural environment out rides the built up environment. I went for this tour to have what I will show children such that they really get involved in the cause.
Just as we had scheduled with the teachers, on 26th of September I had to bombard the schools with a lot of information to give to the children. The children were so jolly and so brilliant. Our discussion was so conversational. They shared with me what they knew about the environment and I also shared and contradicted with some of the things that they thought were right. Some of the these that I contradicted to and put new thoughts in them included the fact that they thought cutting down trees is good because they give us firewood, they also said that taking long showers with a lot of water is very okay, they also told me they leave lights on when they are going to sleep. I had to make them aware of the things they had to know some of which included protecting and conserving trees since they give us fruits, providing oxygen, improve air quality, supporting wild life, and many other importance of trees that they had to understand and take in. I told them about the impact of using hydroelectricity power which involve processes that produce gases that affect the air when it is being pumped, and so does water. So the whole concept I left them was to Reuse, Recycle and Reduce and also plant trees and garden.
Among other things was to give out the plastic toys to their young ones or friends in case they grow up and not to dispose them off onto the environment.
Children had a lot of interesting questions that I answered with no hesitation and I left them contented and they really loved it. One of the children asked why the government does not put emphasis on emission issues. I told him, it starts with us. REUSE< RECYCLE< REDUCE>. Active children and leaders were given gifts in form of scholastic materials to encourage them spread the news to all their friends and relatives at home.
On 1st of October, I had to attend a handover ceremony where the shelter and settlement alternatives an NGO that advocates for low cost housing using materials that are environmental friendly, handed over houses to the low income women group who had saved for housing. Among these, women are making charcoal not from cutting trees but from wastes, the charcoal and the interlocking blocks caught my attention since they are so friendly to the environment and low cost. I bought one of the charcoal to see how it really works, and true they are long lasting and so environmentally friendly. So the wastes are so important and these ladies are doing a good job and are getting some good income to sustain them. They also planted two trees for remembrance purposes but in my head I knew it was for our environment purpose. This was really a great event and so captivating.i will be sharing more of the pictures in the subsequent reports
It?s been a great week, the journey still continues

Thanks for sharing Joanita! wow I can feel your energy though am far far away! I don't think I would ever be able to start a random talk with a stranger in a bus and end up with selling my ideas haha That's really not common! I'm glad to see the smiles of the little kids. Good to know you're enjoying all this! cheers!

Glad to know that your 1st environment awareness and Tunza Eco Gen promotion session went very well. I am sure these young participants would have learnt a lot from your session to implement in their daily lives. Good job. Keep it up.
Also it's nice to read how the women(you mentioned) are making charcoal from waste and caring for environment by planting trees too. Low cost housing using eco-friendly material is a good initiative by this NGO.
Thanks for sharing with lovely pictures.
