Time to Deliver the PARIS AGREEMENT

by | 06-10-2016 19:41 recommendations 0

It's official: the Paris Agreement is signed and sealed. Now it's time to deliver.

First the US and China joined the agreement. Then Brazil. Then India. And now Europe is getting on board.

Why is this a big deal? For the Paris Agreement to go into effect, it needed to be formally approved by at least 55 countries that, together, contribute at least 55 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions.

Today, we've reached and exceeded this threshold – and there's no going back.

With European countries joining, the world's first truly global climate agreement can officially enter into force in 30 days. Which means that for the first time in history, our leaders have the framework to reduce emissions and tackle rising temperatures planet-wide. Now it's up to us to make sure they live up to their commitments and take action.
