Environmental Organizations in the Philippines

Hello, fellow eco-generation Ambassadors! Sorry about this late report, but I would like to introduce to you about several environmental organizations in the Philippines.

The first organization is the Friends of the Seven Lakes Foundation (FSLF) Kids and Youth.  This group was organized in 2003 as the children's and youth arm of the FSLF which is an NGO that aims to conserve, protect and rehabilitate the 7 crater lakes in our City of San Pablo. This youth organization has the most important task of environmental education awareness through the conduct of eco-camps, eco-talks, eco-activities, etc.

Another interesting organization is the #NowPH.org which was organized sometime in 2014 by the USAID and the Climate Change Commission. This organization encourages young people to be part of a social mobilization campaign to understand and respond to the challenges of Climate Change. This group invited young people to make pledges for the One Million Filipino Youth Voices whose statement was submitted in the COP in Paris. This group has evolved into the Yes Pinoy Foundation.

Greeneration Philippines is part of the Climate Change Commission. They conduct workshops throughout the year all over the country for students to learn about the issues of Climate Change. Their most popular campaign is the Top 15 Low Emission Development Strategies like "unplug switchoff", "grow a tree", "goodbye to plastics", "bring your own tumbler", etc.  These are simple ways to save the environment.

As for some popular campaigns, I am very proud of the Sachet Recovery Project (SRP), which has been in existing for some years now. In this project, we collect empty/used softaflextic sachet wrappers and for every 170 kilos collected, Unilever Philippines gives us in return 1,000 eco-bricks or pavers which we can use in our schools. These sachets could otherwise end up in the lakes and rivers and be source of pollution.

In my University, the Ateneo Environmental Science Society takes the lead in all ecological projects. Aside from eco-camps and forums on environmental issues, we also have the yearly Turtle Release wherein baby turtles are brought to the beach and set free.

Being one of the countries that is most vulnerable to the effects of climate change, the Philippines responds through existing organizations that lead in promoting environmental awareness programs that can encourage people to do their part in protecting the environment.

The Philippines has taken a broader perspective when it comes to environmental protection. conservation, and rehabilitation. However, our efforts remained dismal and lacked on scientific grounds. Thus, I can strong state that the foundation of these environmental organizations are really a monumental achievement, not only for the Filipino people but for the whole humanity as well.

Hi Bam! So i guess this is for the last topic right? Thanks for participating! So the wrappers will otherwise be thrown away and stuck somewhere around in the nature waiting for numerous years to be decomposed if it weren't for the campaign! Thanks for sharing this and yeah have a good day
