Nepal has ratified the Paris Agreement on climate change here on Tuesday, aiming to make a contribution towards combating global climate change.

The Paris Agreement on climate change was approved unanimously at a House session in the Nepali Capital Kathmandu.

Earlier Tuesday, Environment Minister Jayadev Joshi had tabled the Paris Agreement on the climate change at the House seeking its endorsement.  Erstwhile Home Minister Kamal Thapa had signed Paris Agreement in America last March.

With this Nepal became 3^rd Country in South Asia to ratify ?Paris Agreement?. Before this Maldives and India ratified this agreement.

Nepal had signed the Paris Agreement under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in April in New York.

Climate negotiators of 196 parties had adopted the accord at climate change talks in Paris, France, on Dec. 12, 2015. Out of this 180 Countries signed  this agreement in America.

The Paris Agreement on the climate change will go into implementation post 2020, after the expiry of Kyoto Protocol, the only legally binding agreement to fight climate change.

The Paris Agreement is an agreement within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) dealing with greenhouse gases emissions mitigation, adaptation and finance starting in the year 2020. The language of the agreement was negotiated by representatives of 195 countries at the 21st Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC in Paris and adopted by consensus on 12 December 2015. It was opened for signature on 22 April 2016 (Earth Day) in a ceremony in New York City. As of October 2016, 191 UNFCCC members have signed the treaty, 63 of which have ratified it. The agreement will only enter into force provided that 55 countries that produce at least 55% of the world's greenhouse gas emissions ratify, accept, approve or accede to the agreement. After the European Parliament approved the ratification of the Paris agreement, there are now both enough countries ratifying the agreement that produce enough of the world's greenhouse gases for the agreement to enter into force
