I want to share with all of you my experience at Energy4Me workshop at the Dubai World Trade Center. We arrived at 8 am at the World Trade Centre for the workshop that was to begin at 9 am on 28th of Sep?2016. To understand the process of extraction of petroleum through a workshop that was organised by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) was an eye-opener where we learned a lot on environmental issues also.
I learned how the petroleum industry practices have changed in the past 50 years to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. Many technological innovations have been implemented in this industry for the protection of the environment. The results are seen in the form of smaller footprints, cleaner and safer operations, less waste is generated and greater compatibility with the environment.
I want to quote here an example of Ultra-Low Sulphur Diesel(ULSD) fuel resulting in improved air quality which is a cleaner burning diesel fuel that enables the use of cleaner technology diesel engines and vehicles. You will be surprised to know that the annual emission reductions will be equivalent to removing 90% of trucks and buses off roads.
Along with curbing ?Vampire? energy, reducing air pollution, Recycling waste, cutting energy use, using renewable and nonpolluting transport, buying local produce, reducing heat loss and so on, we can also come up with small ideas at individual level like people should be encouraged to keep more and more green roofs to reduce energy for central heating and air-conditioning. Green roofs covered with living succulent plants such as Sedum that are ideal for green roofs and tolerate water shortages and need less soil not only look attractive but provide tremendous insulation by keeping the heat out in summer and holding it during winter can be tried by all of us.
This was one of my best educational tours so far where we enjoyed Hands-on Activities to the fullest. The story of the discovery of petroleum, and the many ways it shapes the world we live in is fascinating. The world?s oil consumption has been increasing day by day and it is estimated to increase 60% over the next quarter century. We all should work towards saving our planet by making smart energy choices and need to be careful about energy consumption by increasing energy efficiency.

I literally agree with you, renewable energy is better decision for curbing emission.

Thanks for sharing your delightful experiences with us, Mohit! It is a great news that the petroleum products are changing in a way to reduce carbon emissions, though more effort is still needed. I hope the technology develops so that we can rely on diverse source of energy, and that fossil fuels cause less damage to our Earth. Thanks for spending your time, and hope you have a great day!

Thanks for sharing! I totally agree with Arushi. Though we still use petroleum as our main energy source, I guess engineers are making efforts to reducing decrees from the process to make use of it. Good to know that.

UAE Federal Cabinet decree in 2014 to promote the use of ULSD -aimed at raising the UAE's standards of diesel fuel from 500ppm to 10ppm but still many commercial vehicle owners are not using this diesel. Decress like these are needed to promote the UAE's environmental sustainability by limiting pollution. Glad to know that you could attend such an informative and interesting workshop which you enjoyed. I agree with you -we all should make smart energy choices-should use energy efficient appliances , should use solar energy wherever possible(like for charging at least), should take all possible measures to reduce energy consumption. Thanks for sharing your experience.
