Tanzania: Black Rhino ''John" Gone Missing |

Ngorongoro national park black rhino known as John gone missing from Ngorongoro Crater and said to have been sold questioningly by some administrators from the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA) and Tanzania National Parks (TANAPA). The Prime Minister, Mr Kassim Majaliwa, has required that the famous Black Rhino, recognized as 'John' that was taken away from Ngorongoro Crater under unsure procedure and planning to be returned back to the caldera as soon as possible. Speaking at the Ngorongoro Conservation Area NCAA, the prime minister surprised the listeners when he exposed the cheat through which some NCAA administrators and those from TANAPA plotted to sell the Black Rhino for 200 million Tshs/=, but the purchasers had funded an advance of 100 million to have the unusual way to take Black Rhino from the caldera. Prime Minister Mr Majaliwa said "I know that the rhino was taken to Grumeti Reserve in Serengeti under the pretext of having the rare and endangered animal breed in the location. But in reality, it is under ownership of the private lodge," . According to the Prime Minister Mr Majaliwa, the rhino was taken to Grumeti Singita Sasakwa Lodge where zero was heard of, ever since the animal was taken there for months. Mr Majaliwa straight named some of the suspects two administrators from TANAPA, Dr Macha (from Mkomazi National Park) and Dr Kileo (Serengeti National Park), as well as Mr Patrice Mattay (former ecologist at Ngorongoro), Israel Naaman and Cuthbert Lemanya (both from NCAA). Mr Mattay was present during the meeting between Prime Minister Majaliwa and NCAA (Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority) officials. When he was called forward to defend himself, the ecologist refused the claims, saying that the shifting of the rhino followed the 'right procedures.' He even told the meeting that the claims about them pocketing 200 million Tshs /= were 'definitely lies'. This prompted the Arusha Regional Commissioner (RC), Mr Mrisho Gambo, to warning him for implying that the prime minister was a liar. It is really sad and shocking. Caretakers or administrators in charge are suspected to be behind this mysterious missing of 'John'-is even worse and pathetic. Hope that the Rhino is traced and restored at the soonest.

The sad thing is People who we believe that they are after protecting our lands and nature,they are the ones who destroying it.For example those administrators ,government even incurred costs to educate them in abroad,to make sure they are well trained and educated about environmental conservation ,but instead of bringing skills they learnt they do otherwise.Your welcome Heonjun Park

Peter it's sad to hear about how low politics can go even when it's about nature! Well, I personally am feeling loads of frustration as well for the unfolding events in my country these days. So many lies plaguing everywhere! Thanks for sharing the latest development of the event and hope things will settle down soon.
