The Paris

 Climate Agreement

We're all familiar with many environmental events that have taken place throughout the years, 

but it is no exaggeration when we say that the Paris Agreement should be regarded as the most important one

 for a very long time.

Although the Paris Agreement

 within the United Nations

 Framework Convention on Climate

 Change (UNFCCC) was sealed by

195 countries on the 12 December

 2015, it went into effect on the 4 November 2016. 

After China and the Usa ratified it

 in September, and several EU- countries in October, there were

 just enough ratifier countries that produce the most of the world's greenhouse gases and the Paris Agreement entered into force

 (55 countries that make up about

 55 % of the world's greenhouse 

gas emissions). As of this month,

118 out of 195 countries have ratified the agreement.

The agreement sets to limit the global average temperature increase  below  2 degrees Celsius as soon as possible, through individual comprehensive national climate action plans (INDCs).

The signing governments agreed to:

1. Come together every 5 years in order to develop even more ambitious strategies
2. Be transparent to other governments and the public on the effort to implement these strategies
3. Have a transparent progress tracking system

100 billion USD are intended to

be mobilized annually by 2020 

as the collective goal of developed countries, with even higher goals

set for the future.

The EU's role in the international efforts towards the global climate

 deals is tremendous, being the

 first major economy that submitted its strategies for the agreement in March 2015.

By 2030, the EU plans to reduce its emission by at least 40%.

As it's the first-ever universal, legally binding global climate deal, the public should be a lot more informed on its importance than it is at the moment.
