The following are some of the events to watch out for in 2017

New Year Day 2017

Yes, I wish a very Happy New Year to all in 2017. But this year let's make it eco- friendly by reducing unwanted gifts and exchanging eco-friendly gifts where it is required. Instead of gifts, we can plan to plant a tree, donate to a needy person, attend to a sick person or just show care and affection to an older friend or family member by paying a surprise visit.

New Secretary General of United Nations

The UN General Assembly has recently appointed Mr. Antonio Guterres, the former prime minister of Portugal as the new Secretary General of the United Nations. He succeeds Mr Ban Ki Moon, who has served two five year terms. With Mr.Antonio Guterres, the world welcomes a man of compassion, a former UN high commissioner for refugees. Let's hope the world sees a blissful peace for all people. Peace across the world is the most important need of the hour.

 

Will Trump dump climate change?

Will the new US President withdraw the US from Paris global agreement? I hope not and if it does happen, we have to watch out how it will affect the US and the world in the long run.

La Nina

El Nino came to end in 2016, the new year is expected to see La Nina - the cooling of Pacific Ocean waters. This is expected to bring heavy rainfall and much lower temperatures across the world.

Loss of more wildlife friends

Though it is illegal to trade in threatened species, many friends like Bornean Orangutan, giant otter, Darwin's fox and a few others may disappear from the world - only to be seen in pictures. So sad to see such lovely friends go away due to the greed of some poachers.

Welcome the Eurasian lynx

This is expected to be reintroduced in small numbers to the Kielder forest in Northumberland, and to remote areas of southern Scotland. The last time this wild cat was seen in AD700.

Big Solar Eclipse 2017

The first total eclipse to travel from one coast of America to the other, for almost a century – The total eclipse is expected on August 21 2017. It will be a partial eclipse in western Europe.
