Sustainable Blankets on Flights |

Emirates Airline already runs a green programme on board of recycling aluminum cans, plastic and glass bottles, newspapers, magazines and cartons. Emirates Airline has introduced new sustainable blankets made from 100% recycled plastic bottles. The soft and warm blankets are made using Eco Thread patented technology and is now available in Economy Class. With the latest innovation, the plastic bottles are recycled into plastic chips then are turned into yarn, creating a polar fleece material. The fine thread is then woven into soft blankets.28 Plastic Bottles are recycled to make one ecoThread blanket.
This initiative makes it the largest sustainable blanket programme on board in the airline industry. In addition, the manufacturing process of using recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET) reduces energy emissions by 70%. The environmentally-friendly blankets were designed in partnership with Buzz, a leading inflight product specialist, and are part of Emirates? continued commitment to product innovation and sustainability. ecoThread is certified with the Intertek Green Leaf Mark by third party testing and certification body Intertek, independently verified to use 100% recycled materials.

That's a big amount! One by one companies are aligning to show the public how much they are dedicated to make it greener. Let's all hope this will soon become the next new normal where everybody takes it for granted that the companies should be managed under environmentally friendly atmosphere. Cheers

Thanks for sharing, Mohit! It is very surprising how those cozy looking blankets can be born from used plastics. Does making those blankets cost much? If so, some consumers might worry about the increased flight cost, though the cost of polluting the environment is much more expensive. Thanks again for sharing, and have a great day :)
