Seasonal Eco Issue – Air Pollution [The S2P Campaign]

by Rohan Kapur | 19-01-2017 19:30 recommendations 0

Air – Pollution is a major cause of disease & death. More than 80% urban population are exposed to Air Pollution globally. This motivated me to organize a poster / placard making competition, Solution to Pollution [S2P] in Jan-17 in Sharjah, UAE that will depict their creativity and will educate & motivate the public to contribute to reduction of Air-Pollution through their individual contributions.

We collaborated with Beeah, local environmental company to provide logistic support and certificates for the winners. My school environmental head of department agreed to be the judge of this event. LuLu hypermarket & IFFCO kindly consented to sponsor the refreshments for the event. We kept Al Majaj area as the venue.

As soon as the event details were put up on the social media, registrations start pouring in & students kept on joining till the last minute. On the day of the event the venue was flooded with students of all ages with their innovative placards. One participant Ms. Diya Thakur came dressed like a placard. She demonstrated how people will walk with oxygen mask attached in future if Air-Pollution is not checked now. Some interesting captions were ?Plant a tree & Get Air Free?, ?Solution to Pollution is Green Revolution?, ?Be Carbon Negative?.

They were so beautiful, powerful & colorful that it became extremely difficult for the judges to decide the winners. The beeah representative, who came early in the morning along with us to set up the place and stayed with us till the end of the event, was awestruck. He remarked that this event has left an indelible impression over my mind.

The rationale behind this campaign was to make the young generation ready to identify the local environmental issues and make efforts to contain the same. Problem may be grave but solutions are simple and powerful. Planting trees, using public transport, renewable energy, Hybrid & electric cars are some of the solutions suggested.

Dear Ambassadors, I have attached pictures of the colorful & innovative placards displayed by over 100 participants. Enjoy the pictures, leave your valuable comments and please do organize such campaigns in your respective regions.

Thanks for reading.
