My Awareness program in secondary schools kicks off

by | 22-03-2017 03:05 recommendations 1

My love for mother earth is way too much. At times I feel I will never rest comfortably in my grave before making an incredible positive impact to reduce, and as well put an end to degradation of the environment by humans.

The beginning is never easy but the end always justifies the means. In the past few months, my main focus has been widely on children between 6 to 13 years. Well, I cannot say I have not been reaching out to the youths, this has been done concurrently but my core activities have been with the children.

Since the beginning of this year, I have pledged for mother earth a lot of things, and well I am happy that in this third month, I have not yet disappointed nature.

Last month, I partnered and or got involved as a Tunza Eco generation Ambassador with students for sustainability program at Makerere University and in partnership with Bangor University in whales. As a student and also a Tunza Eco generation Ambassador, we organised the ?GO Green week? in Makerere University Uganda. This was the first event of the Go Green week to be celebrated by the university and it had never been celebrated by any other university in Uganda. So being part of the planning and organising team gave me joy because the week was a success. The week involved awareness programs through matching with placards having pledges, social photo booth that attracted students who pledged for mother earth, and the event was also climaxed with planning trees with the Deputy Vice chancellor, makerere university guild representatives as well as an incredible number of students. This was a success and we are still aiming at carrying out more environmental /sustainability programs in the university and spreading the news to other universities around Uganda.

On 8th of March, (women?s day) I was cordially invited as the Tunza Eco generation Ambassador at Kisubi University by ?Girls for Climate? in Uganda to crown the climate queen. This was an extra ordinary opportunity for me. It was overwhelming that a face of climate was selected. This is the queen that will be the climate ambassador at different occasions.

And on 20th of March 2017, I moved to a secondary school to have my first awareness program this term. Well, I have partnered with a youth group called ?friends of the environment?. This is a group of youths that have the love for mother earth just like me. The event was followed by a presentation about climate change, a two minutes video about climate change causes and impacts, we presented about how the students can think like scientists, and also how they can be part of the solution. This was an interesting audience. Students were enthusiastic where we gave out pens and Eco gen rulers to the active participants and we left after creating an environmental club.

This was an interesting time with these young ladies and gentlemen. The run still continues.
