How to protect ourselves from atmospheric particulate matter |

In my previous report I briefly highlighted the growing problems surrounding atmospheric particulate matter of South Korea. Its becoming a definite problem in our society and raises many health concerns for average citizens.
Unfortunately the South Korean government has not been successful in finding meaningful resolution to atmospheric particulate matter dilemma.
In the meantime we must find ways to protect ourselves from the particulates exposure in our area. Here are some examples.
(Korean government announce 4 times a day)
PM10 - 0~30 : Good, 31~80 : Normal, 81~150 : Bad, 151~ : Extremely Bad PM2.5 - 0~15 : Good, 16~50 : Normal, 51~100 : Bad, 101~ : Extremely Bad
*In case particulate matter measurement is Bad or Extremely Bad - Best to stay indoor and keep windows closed - Drink plenty of water to keep your skin tears flowing well and prevent dehydration

Justin, thank you for your report. I never knew the government announces the measurements 4 times a day. I should tell all my friends to check it. Since the problems with PM are happening again and again in Korea the government is trying their best to find a good resolution, I believe. If you see any new measurements by the government, you could write about it.

Hi Daon, thank you for your feedback.
I think there are two ways we could approach this problem, domestically and internationally.
Domestically, we need to limit the use of diesel fueled vehicles as well as very old vehicles that are behind approved emission standards. Give less incentive to drive diesel cars, perhaps by raising the diesel fuel. Internationally, we need our neighboring countries, esp China, to cooperate in voluntarily reducing PM causing living standards as I mentioned in the previous report.
Thank you.

Hi Justin! Thanks for sharing current PM issue in Korea:)
I could also feel that there are far more people who care about PM pollution compared to the past. It is getting serious, obviously, and it is important not only to control domestic emissions, but to regulate emissions from our neighbor countries such as China, Japan and others.
What measure do you think we should take further?
Thanks again!
