In Japan, water pollution is a serious problem in many lakes around residential area. The main cause of water pollution is domestic waste water. So, Japanese government has been making effort to raise a sewerage coverage ratio. However, it takes too long time to install sewerage systems into perfectly all houses. Now, a new way to solve the water pollution problems is needed, and Biotope may be the one. The system of Biotope is very simple. Biotope takes water from a lake, and clean up the water through water plants, and get back the water into the lake. By using this system, we can eliminate pollutant directly from water in lakes without using a lot of energy or other resources. It sounds wonderful if it really works. Of course the best solution of water pollution is to install sewerage systems into completely all houses and stop domestic waste water flowing into rivers and lakes directly. But I think Biotope can also help a lot to solve water pollution problems.

Hi Nanami! Thanks for sharing impressive news:)
There are many ways for cleaning up the water, however, among them, Biotope is exceptional in a sense it takes no additional energy or resources to purify the water! What a smart idea!
Thanks for your article again!

Nanami, thank you for the report. Cleaning up the water waste through plants sounds amazing. As you said, of course, perfect sewerage system would be ideal, but biotope sure seems like good one. If you happen to see one, why don't you take a photo and upload it? Also if you find any better solution than biotope you may write about it.

WOW! Impressive technique (just like bio-remediation that involves the use of organisms to remove or neutralize pollutants from a contaminated site). It once again proves that living organisms (including plants) can be used in natural/chemical free way to clean water or clean the contaminated sites or treat infected plants. Thanks for sharing.
I further googled to know more on 'Biotope' and read about lot of 'Local biodiversity conservation' and 'Restoration of ecosystems' and many more environmental activities being done by the 'Biotope association of Japan'.
