Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve Located just a short drive away from the hustle & Bustle of Dubai is Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve. In 2002 this area was full of dune bashing vehicles and campsites for the ever so popular Deseret Safari. All these operators were throwing all kinds of litter & garbage. They were just ruining the flora and killing the animal population with harmful human eco – impacts. This reserve was established in 2002 with a goal of augmenting the population of Wild Arabian Oryx, Sand Gazelle, Arabian Gazelle, Arabian Red Fox & the Lappet-faced vulture. In addition to the increasing of wild animal population the vegetation like Ghaf & Acacia were also targeted to be increased. The entire area was fenced off & entry points were regulated. Only handful of operators were allowed and strict compliances were introduced. Fines were prescribed. But the operators were responsible & the administration was strong, therefore the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve thrived with vegetation growth & animal population increased. Dear Readers, you will be amazed to note that in just 15 years the Wild Arabian Oryx population has been increased to 450 from 70 initially. Sand Gazelle is now at 150 from 25 initially. Arabian Gazelle is counted to 300 from 100 initially. Ghaf & Acacia tress also are growing at their normal natural pace.
With the controlled human impact & minimal intervention the desert has regained its natural beauty.
Thanks to the ever so vigilant & planned authorities of Dubai who make meticulous plan & take care for their proper execution as well.

Thanks Aaditya. Humans are responsible for major ecological imbalances, thus the onus is on them to rectify.

Thanks Rohan for sharing. I agree that human activities need to be restricted at times to allow nature to recover and recoup.

Thanks Daon, I fully agree. where there is will there is a way! All countries esp. the developed ones must do their bit of sincere & concrete efforts for Eco-Conservation.

Hi Rohan! Thanks for sharing your report with awesome pictures.
This is a really memorable accomplishment! I hope other countries could learn some lessons from this case when it comes to dealing not only desertification issue, but also other environmental problems. Thanks again for sharing!

Rohan, thank you for your report. This report tells us an effect of a continuous effort. Humans always have and will have a dilemma between developing and conserving and it would be difficult to set a good balance. Though, we need to put more effort on conserving our environment, animals.
