UAEs Ratification to The Paris Agreement

The environmental policies of the UAE are well defined, committed & executed into actions.

Dr Thani Ahmad Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, submitted the UAE?s documents ratifying the country?s entry into the Paris Agreement to the United Nations on 04-Sep-16 during a meeting convened by the UN Secretary General in New York.

As quoted by him ?The Paris Agreement is the world?s first truly durable response to climate change. It allows each country to contribute climate actions in accordance with their own economic and development priorities. For the UAE, this means solutions which create new social and economic opportunities and support our ambitious agenda towards economic diversification,?

UAE as a country and more particularly Abu Dhabi & Dubai have emerged an example of turning commitments into actions. Masdar city is such an example. It is carbon neutral & Zero emission city. Dubai is focusing on solar power & has already planned to put the infrastructure into place to generate a whopping 5 Thousand megawatts of solar power. Dubai has once again taken the lead in the segment, with a number of large rooftop solar plants being announced recently including a 1.5MW system deployed at the Jebel Ali Power Station the Dubai solar schools programme, which targets around 50MW over three years of systems installed in schools across the emirate. Al Nabooda Automobiles has also signed a solar lease for the development of 6.7MW of solar power to their new DIC facility and Aramex has a new 3MW system on their logistics facility.

Further the construction of Nuclear power plants is in full swing and will substantiate the UAE?s commitment. The nuclear power plant?s first reactor is expected to start operation in the coming months, followed by the remaining three over the next three years. Initially 5,600 Megawatts of clean energy shall be generated from the nuclear power

The Gulf economies may not be the world?s largest emitters, but they can provide examples of good conduct when it comes to tackling climate change. Further industrial and energy growth will eventually need to go hand-in-hand with policies to contain energy waste and the pollution of our natural habitat. Playing its part to tackle climate change, the UAE has come up with policies and initiatives that aim to diversify the economy into new, knowledge-based industries.

I am providing a link of the text of official Paris agreement. It will be useful for adding further knowledge.

Rohan, thank you for your report. Another interesting article about UAE! Since UAE is trying their best to protect the environment, I hope they are doing their best with nuclear power plant in a green way as well. By the way thank you for the text of Paris Agreement. It has been quiet a time since I read it last time :)
