by Sujan Adhikari | 19-07-2017 15:52 recommendations 1

This year the theme was ?Environment and Climate Literacy?. People celebrated this day in various ways. But we, the Agriculture Student Liaison Forum (ASLF) team decided to celebrate this important day by conducting online photo contest, art exhibition, public awareness march and flash mob. This program was organized with the theme of ?Environment and Climate Literacy for Sustainable Agriculture? in collaboration with Agriculture and Forestry University (AFU), Democratic Agriculturists? Association -Nepal(DAAN), Tunza Eco Generation and Leo Club of Patihani .

Initially few photos were acquired. But by the end of this contest, more than 35 photos were obtained. Similarly, students of AFU, with their creative ideas presented some arts for art exhibition. Judgment for photo contest was done by a jury panel from Tunza Eco Generation, Korea accounting 80% and remaining 20% was based on social media whereas for the art exhibition judgment was based on voting system by viewers. More than 300 people attended the exhibition and they really appreciated for our work.

In a nutshell, this grand day was successfully celebrated. Through this program, we were able to aware some people about the importance to save our Earth. Earth is in trouble just because of us so everyone should take a small step to make EVERY DAY EARTH DAY.

Tejan Khadka was awarded with Tunza Souvenir. You can see the 2 entries selected by Tunza Eco Generation below :

Contestant no.:            101 Photo 1
Name:                          Tejan Khadka
Address:                      Kupandol Lalitpur
Photo title:                  Entwined

Despite being known as the city of temples, the capital is better known for its unhealthy lifestyle. This picture shows how people have become habitual of the pollution and continue living with how it is. Farmers don?t care if their land is polluted or the vegetables are grown forcefully with chemicals. Soil infertility is no longer an issue as quality is overruled by money. People in the Kathmandu valley have learned to live their lives as pollution prevails.

Contestant No.:           112 Photo 1
Name:                          Prakash Oli, Islington College, Kamalpokhari, Kathmandu
Address:                      Banke
Photo title:                  Pursuance

This picture portrays the effects of pollution on agriculture and how it is affecting our health. Climate Change is definitely a growing global issue but it isn?t the only thing that is alarming human existence. While everyone is busy trying to minimize the factors that cause climate change, we tend to forget about the pre-existing problems caused by pollution in our daily life.

Sujan, thank you for your report.I believe photos, art pieces are the most effective means to promote awareness when it comes to environment. I personally love the first photo. There is a woman on the field and we can see the smoke on the back. Poetic!

Amazing way to celebrate Earth Day, Sujan!!! The photos posted are extremely creative and I am sure you received a lot of other great photos as well. I think this is a very creative way to save our environment, because people can contribute to the environment and learn more by doing something they like (in this case photography). Wonderful initiative!
