Causes of Biodiversity Loss in India

by | 20-07-2017 19:20 recommendations 0

Biodiversity loss has always existed as a natural process but threats to biodiversity arise when the rate of extinction exceeds the rate of specification.

Biodiversity loss is primarily related with human interactions with natural resources.

In early phases of life, humans remained as one component of ecosystem but, very recently, humans have become a factor of ecosystem and started reshaping the biodiversity.

Humans have drastically disturbed the natural rate of extinction of species. Factors that cause loss of biodiversity have exceeded the factors that cause gains in biodiversity. Rate of specification has been adversely affected due to which many species have disappeared from the earth and many are facing varying degrees of threat of extinction.

Prashant, thank you for your report. Yes humans are a component of ecosystem and at the same time are causing some harms. So what kind of loss is India suffering? What are expected solutions for the issue?

Hi Prashant! Thanks for sharing your report on biodiversity loss. I deeply sympathize with your report. Human caused loss of biodiversity by excessive hunting as well as habitat destruction. There are many issue we have to deal with, but i believe this is one of the urgent issues that we should work on!

Prashant, as you so rightly pointed out, we humans belong to the unique biodiversity of our planet and are a tiny component in the whole scheme of things. However, we over the last few years have focused more on harvesting gains from this biodiversity as if we are its sole owners rather than a small part of it. It provides for us and we need to slow down our activities to allow the resources to replenish.

It's really sad that human greed and want for materialistic pleasure has resulted in increasing loss of biodiversity. Thanks for sharing.
