My trip to Germany and how their way to live positively shocked me |
---|
I currently find myself on a school trip (which is why I?m writing a little late) to Germany and I?ve been astounded several times by the measures the country has taken to ensure a green living. On the following article are some of my impressions.
There are wind turbines everywhere and by everywhere I mean it. On the hills, by the sea, just outside towns and cities. Some turbines were relatively small, others bigger.Comparing it to my home country Argentina, I was very surprised to see so many turbines. Secondly, the whole city of Freiburg. Firstly, the transport and the massive use of bicycles. A guide told use that there was a circulation of around 80.000 bikes a day. Secondly, the movement in the past to avoid a nuclear central on the outskirts of the city.Thumbs up to you people of Freiburg. Thirdly, the "heliotrop" (helios greek for sun, trop Greek for turning) building with its solar panel and its tuning to aim towards the sun, which imitates a sunflower and is completely independent from other sources of energy. Thirdly, the whole recycling scheme with plastic, paper and clothes. In shops like H&M there are bins where you can put old clothing, in supermarkets machines that take water bottles and in different homes trash is separated and each category of trash is taken out on a different day. All these things really shocked me and the level of organization in Germany was really mind-blowing to experience. The rest of the world should take a long look and follow this prime example of things we can do.

Carolina, thank you for your report. You are not the only one to be surprised about Germany in that respect. If a foreigner gets to live in Germany, it gets little bit inconvenient, but definitely Germany has its own highly eco-friendly way of living.

Hi Carolina! Thanks for sharing about your trip to Germany.
Germany is well known for its initiatives for sustainable future. I've also learned a lot from Germany's cases. Hope I could also have a chance to visit Germany to learn more from their efforts and initiatives!

Hi Carolina Ranfagni,
Let me tell you congrats first of all for your safe trip to and from Germany. I always encourage people to travel because there is always something to learn. I have never been outside my country but if the opportunity presents itself, I will surely grab it. I am glad Germany has made an impact on you. you could suggest some of these measures to your family and gradually it could turn into a national thing. It is possible.

@Carolina, I'm a little jealous of your experience for two reasons:
First, I always dreamed of visiting one of the Europian Countries such like Germany.
Second, Unfortunately in my country we haven't a single plan to adopt the green living, we have no wind turbines at all, no feature like recycling and of course using the bicycles almost non-existent. Thanks for sharing this beautiful report. ^_^

As such most of the countries in Europe are eco-conscious and implementing various strategies and policies to conserve resources, reduce waste and use clean sources of energy. When I shifted to the UK, I was also very pleasantly surprised seeing such positive practices. In supermarkets or malls or retail outlets, you have to pay to get plastic bag. This discourages customers to buy, use and throw these harmful plastic bags. As a result of this, customers carry their own jute/cloth/reusable bags like I and my family started doing from the second day itself. Coloured waste segregation bins and residents willingness to abide by them, is all really worth an applause and rest part of the world must learn from them. Thanks for sharing your experiences.

Thanks Carolina for your report. I fully agree with you that the eco friendly lifestyle and conservation methods as also the public awareness and use of renewable energy sources is very highly developed in Europe. I am currently in Austria and can say the same for this beautiful country as well. Other nations can learn alot from the methods being employed by residents, industries as well as local authorities here. Commitment of all stakeholders and at all levels of community- is very impressive.
