Hello.
Producing electricity from household waste in
Glékopé in the prefecture of Agou The Ministry of
the Environment and Forest Resources (MERF)
through the National Agency for Environmental
Management (ANGE) Environmental and Social
Impact Assessment (ESIA) for the project for the
construction and operation of a treatment and
recovery center for household and similar waste in
Glékopé in the prefecture of Agou. The purpose of
the Industrial Waste Incineration Service of Togo
(SIDMIT) is to produce electricity. The Director
General of ANGE Adadji Koffi who visited the site
to house the structure also chaired the validation
of the report presented by the consultant. More
than 50 actors were on hand this August 10, 2017
at the Hotel Béthania. The objective of the project
for the construction and operation of the waste
treatment and recycling center is to recycle waste
into clean energy. The incinerated household and
industrial waste will drastically reduce their
presence in the open air in order to sanitize
Togolese cities. The delegation led by Mr Adadji
visited the project site in Glékopé, about 70 km
from Lomé, in the presence of the developer, the
media and the neighboring populations. This
project is beneficial, said the DG, but his
institution will be watching and will follow up on
the environmental and social management plan
proposed by the consultant. The waste treatment
center will be built over an area of 󈑘.4 ha.
Outside the factory, there will be the construction
of laboratories for study and treatment of waste, a
health center, and dwellings for the employees.
The project will have an impact on the
environment, for which a renowned association in
reforestation will have the task of making
reforestation reforestation. According to the
consultant, Mr Tcheinti-Nabine Maxwell "all
avoiding measures will be taken to minimize the
risks to the health of populations". "Our first
activity will be the incineration of waste to
produce electricity. Then it will be marketed on
the national and international market, "said Ekué
Elda, the logistics manager. The processing
capacity will be 5 tonnes per hour and the cost of
construction is estimated at 23 billion CFA francs,
according to the promoter, Eric Kentzler. He also
promised local residents that the local workforce
will be privileged if qualified. After this preliminary
work, the promoter is awaiting the issuance of the
certificate of conformity which opens the start of
its activities to him.

Tevi, thank you for your report. As we get to have more and more waste, it is highly recommended to figure out how to use the waste. Your report definitely shows us good example. I believe other Ambassadors would also enjoy reading this article. Well written!

Hi Tevi! Thanks for sharing your report on new project:)
Turning waste into clean energy sounds really fascinating idea, and I've seen many counties started producing energy in that way. Hope the project will be done successfully and let us know how it goes!
