Earth is not inherited but borrowed

There is a famous proverb- We don't inherit the earth from our ancestors we borrow it from our children."

This proverb indicates that instead of living for just today we have to focus on our future too as our present actions will affect the condition of our earth and our children who will live on it. No one owns or inherit the Earth but we borrow it or we are entrusted with it for some time and then we have to give it back to our next generations. When we borrow something, then we need to take care of it. We only have one earth and we need to take better care of it for our children.

Earth is like a house where we live. We use its shelter to comfort us and we keep it neat and dust free so that it does not affect our health. Once we are gone this house will pass on to our children who will live there. But if we keep our house messy and dilapidated our children will not be able to live there. In other words, we have to take extra care of our house in order to make it livable for our future generations. Similarly, we have to take more care of our earth as we have to make it livable for our children otherwise they will face huge challenges and natural threats to their living conditions like we are facing today because of the actions of our past generations. On humorous note, if someone offers us half eaten biscuit we will not like it. Earth is like a biscuit that we have to leave wholesome for our children.

This proverb has genuinely affected my mindset and I aim to initiate activities that will help in the repletion of the resources of our earth instead of depletion. Apart from clean up drives, tree planting I firmly believe in recycling of old and waste products. This month I initiated my project ?Lets recycle- season 2?  where in I along with my group are collecting waste papers and cartons to submit to paper mill company who will reuse them to make papers.

If we want to leave this planet for our future generations. Recycling is the greatest mantra.   My action may be small but I am certain that it will add up to the sustainability of our earth. Through this project we are doing our role towards conservation of the resources of our earth as conservation is an important part of recycling. When we do not reuse old products it goes to the garbage which is dumped in the landfills. When you produce less garbage it not only helps in reducing the landfills but it also reduces air and water pollution.

Manav, thank you for your report. I have never heard that proverb before, but I really love it! It tells us how much we should take care of the earth. I should tell my friends this proverb. Thank you!

Hi Manav! Thanks for sharing your report:)
Even if the phrase you mentioned is already popular, it is never enough to repeat that and keep that in mind. Let's keep on working for our environment!
