Pesticides v/s Organic
Pesticides are great inventions of the 20th century. They have helped to increase the agriculture production rather mass production. Increasing population has put a lot of load on the existing infrastructure to produce more to cater to the exponential rise in demand for food. By using pesticides the production has increased. But this has taken a bad toll on the environment & public health. It has been proved that some pesticides are a health hazard in the long run. Many diseases have increased.
In this scenario, Organic farming has again become popular & rather need of the hour. This is pesticide free & healthy as well. I have tried the same at home in my balcony & it has been proved that everyone can do organic farming. Tomatoes & mint leaves have grown in abundance in this small place. I have shared some pictures of the same as well. There is a popular story of a farmer in Japan who has grown organic apples in his farm & now these apples are in high demand. He has seen many failures & many crops have failed, his family suffered a lot, but ultimately he succeeded in growing pesticide-free apples. The full story can be read here: Japan apple Farmer My point is that if I can do it, The Japanese farmer can do it than all of us must try to promote pesticide-free agriculture produce. |

I think start from the home, try to maximize. Each small contribution matters & may motivate others. Thanks Stephanie for your comments.

You are absolutely correct Jihyeon. May in future mass production becomes feasible. Thanks for your comments.

Hi, Rohan! What a great job you did! I remember that once I was a child, the school gave me the assignment to raise organic potatoes without using any chemical pesticides. You remind me of that reminiscence (Actually I failed). It's obvious that we need an agricultural revolution for further environmentally friendly livelihood. Maybe we can start from our home just like what you did! Your case must be a great motivation for other ambassadors to practice.
By the way, mass production using chemical free pesticides is still insufficient to support demands of the overall population. I believe we could only enlarge their positive aspects gradually with sufficient research. Thanks for your report!

Hi, Rohan! Thank you sharing photos of your home garden. :) It makes me want to start a garden of my own! However, this kind of home farming method isn't really sufficient to completely feed a household. The majority of the produce consumed must still come from farms, and farming large scale inevitably has to deal with pest problems. Of course, organic methods can be used in actual farms as well, but the reason that they cannot replace pesticides is because they reduce productivity and usually cost more. What do you think are the most effective and affordable ways to replace or reduce chemical pesticides? (Try to think about the economic aspects as well!)
