Now I am done with my 6 months internship at mandarin block, Pokhara and also my report is almost ready regarding status orchard health in same block. During my research I found, only 8 percent of the farmers using chemical pesticides and rest of the farmers following biological and cultural methods. I took this data by household survey for my Internship thesis. This shows that most of the orchards are virgin organic and when asked about why they don?t use pesticides, they replied being organic is safer than any other means. Most of the farmers in survey area follow cultural and biological methods of pest control rather than chemical method while few of them follow IPM practices.
Most commonly used pesticide by 8 percentage of farmers is Nuvan, Dithane M 45, Dimethoate, Carbenzazim, Mancozeb, Rogar etc. Most of pesticides were used after fruit setting.

Hi, Sujan! Thanks for your report! I'm so glad to hear that almost 90% of farmers in Mandarin block don't use chemical pesticides for their agricultural production anymore. I hope farmers in other regions to follow this meaningful practice. Actually, I really want to know what makes them ban using chemical pesticides. That could be a reliable method to convince and make overall farmers to use non-chemical methods.

Hi, Sujan! Thank you for your report on pesticide usage in your current location, Mandarin Block. I quite was surprised that you thought of actually conducting your own survey. This was a very fresh approach to the topic, and I appreciate the time and effort you put into the survey. I was surprised to know that the farmers on Mandarin Block actually used cultural and biological methods way more than chemical pesticides. From their response, that being organic is safer, I could see that they were aware of the harms of chemical pesticides. I hope that other parts of the world can follow their example!
