Are genetacally modified crops GOOD are NOT? |
---|
ARE GENETICALLY MODIFIED CROPS GOOD OR NOT? Genetically modified crops are living organisms that have new genes which were added to themselves from other organisms. The method experimented in this sort of crop management is being used to make sure that landowners and merchants can enhance crop or food quality efficiently. Some individuals advocate that this strategy will help those who work in the agricultural industry dimension the rates of wasted crops and foods. However, while there may be many pluses of genetically modified crops (GM crops), there can be possible negatives that are current. Advantages: Many specialists are trying to modify GM crops to turn them into more resistant ones against insects and other pests. A recent research carried out by the University of California in San Diego refers that toxic bacteria (not dangerous for human use) could be accompanied to crops to make them withstand insects, resulting in the reduction in the rate of pest controllers used on the plants and their exposure. Moreover, as the population of the world increases, the demand for housing also grows, which means that it puts pressure farmers to find areas for planting. But, it is commonly viewed that GM technology is set to bring about the solution to this issue, because crops modified can withstand weather extremes and fluctuations, allowing planters to plant their crops such as rice, corn in the yields, where a poor or severe weather condition occurs. Disadvantages: On the other hand, many negative points cannot be overlooked. To start with, GM crops might be a cause of allergy. It is stated by research by the Brown University that genetic modification seldom mixes or accompanies with proteins that were originally not indigenous to the original animal or plant, but can pose significant allergy risks to people. In most cases, it is said that ?proteins from organisms that you are allergic to might be added to organisms that you were not originally allergic to?, which implies that your range of food choices will be shortened. What?s more, genetically modified crops are experimented to gain strange tastes compared with the ordinary foods that are on the shelf of the market. This might be the consequence of the chemical substances that were added to their composition. |

Hi, Muhammad! Thanks for your report! Genetically modified crops appear from the demand of people to improve the quality of food and agricultural conditions, in other words, to make it easy and simple. Of course, they can solve several problems like housing, pest controls, and etc. However, We will be in more complicated states than before as we control genetic information of crops more and more because simultaneously the possibility of deriving unwanted harmful effects could also increase. Even though we totally analyze genetical information of target crops, in the way of farming, there are plenty of variations which could negatively influence those crops. It's too dangerous before we fully analyze every related aspect of their utilization.

Hi Muhammad! I think that genetically modified crops are not harmful to health. I've read several articles about it. The world population is growing every year, so genetically modified crops will be able to feed everyone.

Very well written report Muhammmad, another benefit which I would like to add is that GM crops lower the costs of production by reducing inputs of machinery, fuel, and chemical pesticides. In addition, due to more effective pest control, crop yields are often higher. But just like all gifts of science, it is up to us to use GM crops wisely to be able to reap the benefits rather than be faced with problems...

Although, GM crops looks more promising for short period due to its more production but in long term basis they have more impacts.
GM crops has reduced fertility of soil, established monopoly of developed countries over developing country and have also contributed to loss of indigenous varieties.

Hi, Muhammad! Thank you for your report on GM crops. I was actually thinking of picking this as a future report topic, but was worried that people would only focus on the negative sides. Thankfully, your report was very well-balanced and introduced some powerful benefits! As you've explained in your report, genetically modified crops have the potential to be one of the safest and most efficient alternatives to chemical pesticides. They can also be engineered to produce larger edible portions, or to contain important vitamins and other nutrients. One of the most well-known examples is golden rice, engineered to contain vitamin A. This helped cure a lot of vitamin A deficiency-related diseases in parts of the world that could not afford expensive fruits or vegetables. All in all, I wanted to point out that although GM crops may pose dangers, they may also be extremely powerful in solving serious food-related problems. Nice work!
