Flood in Koumassi |
---|
Again, again, and again. It is very sad what people are undergoing due to the flood in Abidjan. This rain season is really creating pains and death in the city of Abidjan, especially the commune of Koumassi. Koumassi is part of the ten communes of Abidjan. It located in the south of the city and is the third largest communes among the southern communes of the Abidjan. It is also one of these popular communes where you can find many underprivileged people. Abidjan is a city where it rains a lot and each time it rains the population of Koumassi is in trouble. The recent rain has forced t least hundred people to leave their houses. While their children are students and schools have just opened. Some schools have closed because of the flood. Beyond these troubles, this flood has also made at least fifty deaths these three last months. In Koumassi, many people live in slums. Further, the gutters are not cleaned and then cannot evacuate the rain water. Many parts of the commune are not tarred, so a strong rain can easily damage the road and enter block the traffic It is very critical this situation in Koumassi, and everyone need to take action. The local authority well the government should deploy the financial means to not only make new gutters but also clean the existing ones. Moreover, the citizens of the commune need to get these civic values by protecting and taking care of what they already have. Also, NGOs and environmental activists like Eco Generation ambassador should carry out actions to educate the youths of Koumassi to environmental issues and sustainability. They can also motivate the youths to take gutters and streets clean up actions. |

Hi, Fredric! I'm very sorry to hear about the disaster in Abidjan. It's devastating to see how floods ruin homes, destroy villages, and even take lives. I agree that clearing gutters and making new ones is very critical, and I hope that the combined actions of the government and citizens can make this happen. Nice work on your report!
