Revitalisation of Green Open Space of Bandung City

by Rheza Auditya Wijaya | 30-11-2017 16:25 recommendations 0

Nowadays, the number of human populations in the world continues to increase. This growth is followed by the increase of demand for land to create residences and conducting various activities. The need for such land often encourages people to behave selfishly and irresponsible to the nature. Many of the lands that should be used to maintain the balance of the nature are destroyed to meet human needs.

Given the phenomenon that occurred in my hometown, Bandung, since years ago Bandung is well-known for its beautiful nature and environment. However, in the last 2 decades, economic growth has prompted the city of Bandung to do extreme development in all aspects and ignore the importance of preserving the city's environment. Urban expenditure budget is only spent on development and administration operations by not making efforts to balance the ecosystem in the city.

Since 2013, Bandung city's government began to realize that the balance of nature in Bandung is no longer as good as it used to be. The cool temperature of Bandung began to rise and made it not as cool as it used to be, moreover, flood disaster continues to occur in the city. Since the election of Mr. Ridwan Kamil who is a city planning expert became the mayor of Bandung in 2013, Bandung City began to clean up in terms of utilization of vacant land or green open space that has long been abandoned.

Many of the previously unorganized city parks have now transformed into pleasant and beautiful gardens. The city's forests are now well-organised and attracted townspeople to come and explore it. One thing that needs to be appreciated from the performance of Bandung government is they also pay attention to the value in use of the parks that they revitalize. City parks that full of amazing plants are created to maintain the balance of nature, but a comfortable park for humans will attract city residents to enjoy and appreciate nature.

The parks in the city of Bandung are now no longer just a display that can be seen from the window of the vehicle when the city residents pass by. Today, the park in the city of Bandung is equipped with supporting facilities for the city residents like comfortable benches, children's toys, and walkways that do not damage the plant, that is also accompanied by supporting facilities in the form of trash boxes scattered around the park to anticipate the presence of garbage. There is one interesting park called Pet Park in Bandung, where in the mentioned park humans and animals can interact together to enjoy nature. The mentioned park also provides several toys for animals, so it becomes a suitable place for animals and humans synergize with nature.

Bandung city that is known as "Kota Kembang" or flower city is now really become the home of the beautiful flowers. The efforts made by the government of Bandung should be appreciated because in addition to preserving the environment, this effort can also attract the citizens of the city to love nature and synergize with the nature. Today's so called 'city children' who are usually preoccupied with the activities in the mall is now able to feel the beauty and vibes of playing in nature just like we used to. By taking this movements we hope that nature and ecosystem in the city of Bandung continues to be maintained and the city community is increasingly concerned about the importance of appreciating nature.

All in All, Hopefully the city of Bandung can continue to improve its development programs that always pay attention to the importance of preserving nature. Moreover, hopefully the city of Bandung can also be an inspiration for other cities in Indonesia as well as in the World, especially in Southeast Asian countries, where the city's development is not solely about how to improve the economy of its citizens, but also how to maintain its natural balance and increase the participation of its citizens in appreciating nature. Hopefully this article entertains you all, and we are waiting for you to visit the city of Bandung!

Hi, Rheza! Wow, Bandung city sure looks beautiful! I agree that 'flower city' is a fitting name :D It's great to hear about how the city government cares about the environment, and how it put effort into looking after the city and the environment. I would love to visit Bandung City in the future! Also, I hope that many cities around the world can also make efforts to look after the city environments. Great work!
