(July's Topic) Before following IEL, Follow Our Country's Law!

Hey what¡¯s up guys! I¡¯m here with my July¡¯s Topic, ¡®International Environmental Law¡¯! Before I start my report, what is ¡®International Environmental Law¡¯? It¡¯s a branch of public ¡®International Law¡¯, rules and laws that deals about relationships among nations. The International Environmental Law covers topics such as population, climate change, desertification etc. There are also lots of international conferences to debate and update, fix these laws.

There are some situations that relate to the International Environmental Law, but before that I think we should follow our country¡¯s environmental law first, then we can also follow the International Environmental Law easily.

For South Korea, we have lots of problems with our environmental law. Year by year, cases of violating South Korea¡¯s environmental law is increasing, but punishments from violating the law is too soft, that most companies keep violating with no problem.

From 2015 to now, 3232 cases have been filed nationwide, but 1011 cases, 31.2%, have been suspended and prosecuted. On the other hand, 23 cases (0.7 percent) of cases were punished, 20 cases (0.6 percent) were fined about $ 9000 (dollars) and 1452 cases (44.9 percent), half of the whole cases were fines of less than $ 3000 (dollars).

Since this is becoming a huge problem, lots of experts and members from the South Korea Congress are taking action to stop this. The South Korean government must find a way to solve this and make environmental laws strict.

Hello Rock, not only the implementation of strict regulations but also taking care about 'forgotten citizens' around us. Though cases of violating law mean its increase is to do with overall acknowledgement level of people, but the topic I gave out to you was in a purpose to let E-gen members think of people who are suffering from environmental problems but not getting supported by government and other citizens as they are 'forgotten' (poor and sick).
Anyway, the number of violating law cases are to do with social acknowledgment of how much we do think of our surrounding environment, and that's true.

    Hello Rock Lee
There's a good point about the implementation of domestic laws! Before an international stage is discussed, a strict follow of national laws should be kept.
After reading this report, I should go and search our national laws and its situations!
    Thanks for sharing :)

    Hi Rock-Lee!

I completely concur with what you say, laws should stem from a national level and and only then will a spore of international environmental laws develop.

It is good that actions have taken place to condemn those of violating the environmental laws. I also do hope that the state officials in your countries, other NGOs and citizens take a stand and fight against this.

    Good report!
