I choose to follow my father steps and studying geology, his specialization was Artesian wells, and now I have a Bachelor degree (with honor) in Geology, but until this moment I really don?t know what specialization I want to choose. It?s an enigma for me. Most of you know that there are many fields in geology but I got involved in only 3 I started with an internship in Oil and gas sector it must be 1 year program and due to many reasons I only spent 2 months, I volunteered in water and sanitation about a year ago, I took extra courses in geological engineering, and I was selected for training program in the ministry of minerals but unfortunately it overlapped with my final examinations. The petroleum industry is considered one of the most important sources of air pollution, which started from the gas emissions resulting from the oil exploration and production processes, the leakage during the transfer process and its distribution to the oil refineries, which in turn plays an important role in the emission of the most serious greenhouse gases and finally emissions that result from the consumption of oil and natural gas derivatives. And I really do not need to mention the pollution from mining processes In another hand, there is water sector, between the two I mentioned above its very interesting field, besides it doesn?t cause any environment pollinations There are based gender employment, especially in water and mining and oil sector it is the most suitable for the females. Back to my days on campus, field trips and laboratories were the only interesting parts in studying earth science. So depending on what I said, does anyone have a suggestion on what specialization I must choose in my career? I really struggling with choosing. |

Nice report Razan. As someone who doesn't know a lot about the different geological fields there are, I doubt if i can give you some strong advice. However, keep in mind that choosing one field does not close the doors to all the others you have learnt or studied. So, to do what you love most and be a product of your decisions and not your circumstances is my advice to you. ^.^

@Sumit, I also thought about that, since I didn't take enough classes in the Saftey and the Environment not even after the campus I am planning to attend extra courses in this subject.

I think you should choose a topic which is now trending worldwide, like global warming related issues. You can seek the possible solution regarding the emissions from the petroleum industries.

Well, thanks to all of you. determining my passion and considering the job opportunities is really difficult. I just hope the best of luck for me and for every single one of you. ^_^

Hello Razan, it is really hard to decide one's specialization. I too am facing my own concerns about this problem and am having great difficulty on finding the right path for me. so my comments might not be of great help but still I would like to say, go for what you truly find most fascinating by heart. Which you can do for long years with passion. However we should also remember that this decision isn't our last call and we would still have other chances to make differences.
Wish you best lucks Razan!

Hello Razan,
Although I don't have any idea of geology related courses. I would suggest you to go with something that excites you, something you find interesting and enjoy while reading. It will take out the best from you. :)

Hi Razaan!
Wow, that is tough one to call. You've practically made sure that you not only have a theoretical but a practically outlook on geology-based fields. i wouldn't choose on your behalf, but what i would say is that you should go for what you really found eye-opening for you and what made you enjoy the space you were in at the time.
Whether is it Petrology, Water or engineering intertwined with Geology, I would suggest the one that could allow you to apply your theoretical work in the field!
Good luck!

Razan, I understand you) It is so hard to decide what you want to do when you also want to listen to your parents...

I really don't know what I can advise you. I think you should self examine and know what would be most suitable. All the best.
