Ozone depletion: Causes, effects and solutions

by Hassan Nasir | 20-09-2018 11:35 recommendations 0

Ozone layer is the main reason that leads to global warming. So when the layer gets thinner than our planet becomes the victim of Ultraviolet radiations of the sun.UV radiations electromagnetic waves released by the sun.

Causes of Ozone depletion

Since ozone depletion is concerned, it must be kept in mind that low temperature is also one of the reasons that depletes the air. Apart from this, increase of a chlorine and bromine in upper stratosphere (layer of Earth?s atmosphere) also the reason of the thinning of ozone layer. However, it must be noted that chlorofluorocarbons are the significant factor that depletes almost 80% of total depletion.

Few other substances also leads to depletion such as Hydrochlorofluorocarbons, aerosols etc. These substances are mainly found in industrial processes, automobile emissions, and refrigerators.

Effects of Ozone depletion

Depletion of the layer paves a way for UV rays to enter into the atmosphere hence thus proves detrimental to health and environmental issues.

Exposure to UV rays results in the increased risk of skin cancer. Moreover, UV rays are also hazardous to our eyes. For instance, we become the victim of snow blindness and cataract problems. Furthermore, the exposure to UV rays also caused the aging of skin. Lastly due to these UV rays immune system is also damaged.Lastly, due to the UVs other illnesses like chest pain and breathing problem becomes widespread.

It?s not just that humans are the only creatures that are victim of UVs.Unlike us, different species of amphibians are also becoming endangered species. Lastly, due to these rays marine ecosystem is adversely affected like planktons which form the food chain and oceanic carbon cycle gets badly affected.

Solutions to overcome Ozone depletion

Protocols like Montreal should be organized in different regions of the world. As such protocols will rapidly create awareness regarding adverse effects of Ozone depletion at a massive level. Moreover, the use of recycled products must be made a tradition globally as it will diminish the wastage of the products. To further, the need of an hour is that we must act inclusively at a global level so that concrete actions must be implemented in curbing the ills of ozone depletion.

Hello Hassan, I do agree with individual solution provided at the last part of your report.
International environmental regime and support groups among individuals and countries must engage as common activities to act against ozone depletion.
I appreciated neatly organized and written report!
Keep up with your work :)

    Hey Hassan!

The act of ongoing workings to enforce the Montreal Protocol is still on the pipeline to continue protecting the environment. But what would be excellent is to further increase awareness of citizens because it is them that use everyday products containing these gases.

    Thank you Hassan!

    Hello Hassan
We do know that ozone depletion is a big problem that needs immediate mending.
However, the actual contribution is lower than the knowledge spread across this universe.
It is really the time to act!
    Thanks for the report :)

The solution to reducing the depleting rate of Ozone layer lies with each and everyone of us. It is time to act!

Another great report on Ozone layer depletion.
