Rwanda is a country where the majority of the whole population are Christians. On 14th Sept 2018, Rwanda celebrated world ozone day because the world ozone day that should have taken place on 16th Sept 2018 contradicted with Sunday. Local government officials including Coletha Ruhamya, General Director of Rwanda Environment Management Authority and the Vice Mayor of Kigali City were also present in the event. The event took place at Kigali Car Free Zone and was compacted with the celebration of two years of Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol that was adopted in Oct 2016.The Montreal Protocol controls Hydrochlorofluoro carbons (HCFCs) which are ozone-depleting substances. The exhibition of alternatives to ozone layer depleting substances and technologies that promote energy efficiency was also a wonderful part of the event. The exhibited materials include cooling natural gases, Cooking gas, solar energy and electronic refrigerant among many others. The event was also characterized by entertainment part, with traditional Rwandans dance and songs by traditional troops. The event was intended to create awareness of the implementation of the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol, a commitment to stop the global warming. The thing that we should really think about is how we can use technological innovations to mitigate gases emissions while contributing to energy efficiency. The other thing is financial needs to carry out those projects because it requires a huge capital. |

Hello Ishimwe, I do really agree with your words : The thing that we should really think about is how we can use technological innovations to mitigate gases emissions while contributing to energy efficiency. The other thing is financial needs to carry out those projects because it requires a huge capital. As just Gyeongrin mentor said below, we need integrated forms of approaches to move onto the final chapter of anti-ozone depletion problem, just like other international environmental problems.
Being sustainable must be backed up with technological and financial development and support, without any dissonance between them at least.
Thanks for your report!

Hey there Ishimwe!
I can see from the images that the event was a successful one. It is admirable that even with the minor change of the event date that the event still materialised. Reaching two years since amending the Protocol is a huge milestone and I wish you many more to come!
Also, I concur that people need to be made aware of alternative technologies that could hault the use of CFCs and HCFC gases all together. Of course financial aid will always be a hicup but it will not hinder that progress that Rwanda has put down.
Take a bow Rwanda! Excellent work Ishimwe!

Hello Ishimwe
The last paragraph really well sums up the important matters regarding environmental issues that we are currently facing, including ozone depletion issues.
Technology and finance should be considered in the planning step to solving these problems as these will be our strength and constraints when bringing the problem into reality.
Thanks for the report :)

Ishimwe,
Hearing this for the first time, I would have love if you could give details of the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol.
As you have rightly said, technology is highly needed. As long as the project will significantly reduce the rate of emission of poisonous gases and ozone layer depletion, the financial demand of such project should not be a burden to the world.
Thanks for the report
