Rohingya Refugee in Cox's Bazar-one of the main reason of climatic change in Bangladesh |

Since 25 August 2017, a huge number of Rohingya people came here in Cox's bazar from Myanmar. As they were helpless, Bangladesh government opened their border for them. They started to live in hill areas of cox's bazar district.
The amount of refugees are almost 8 lacks & it is really tough for the authority to maintain them properly. They cut down trees in that hill areas & build their homes. They use it as fuel for cooking as well. 8 lacks people, it means, at least 2 lacks family, so you can easily understand how much fuel they need everyday. That area was full of tress & home of various diversified species. But now the condition has become worst ever. The sanitation system of that area is not good, that's why the lake & river water has become polluted. This is how water sources are being polluted in that area. They have limited number of sources of safe water & that is not sufficient for the huge people. That's why old people & kids are facing very much difficulties. As they use trees as fuel for their cooking, it creates air pollution. The amount of rainfall has already been decreased in that locality. Weather pattern is also changing day by day. As they cut down trees here & there, the soil also loses it's fertility. There were many endangered animals there & some rare plant species as well. all of them are being destroyed already. It is a great lose for a country. It creates a huge impact on our environment. Probably now we can not see the changes, but it will take a vital role in climatic changes in our country in future. I with my team members went there & talked with them. We tried to make them aware about environmental pollution. There are many pregnant women as well, so it will be much tougher for the authority to ensure their healthy life. Refugees are helpless, we should help them undoubtedly. But we should also think about our nature & environment too. The UN, Bangladesh Government should take necessary steps as early as possible for the betterment of Cox's bazar area & the Rohingya people as well. |

Hello Shamin
It is very great of you and your team members to converse and try to aware these people of the environmental loss possible while also understanding the whole situation. It would be best if the government and the UN could bring up a more helping plan!

Hey there Shamim!
Truely, refugees are on the receiving end of all poor quality services and necessities. It is unfortunate that the way they live is setting an ever adverse effect on the surrounding environment.
The loss of species that will never be replaced is a great loss indeed and I commend you and your partners for doing such excellent work for the betterment of the people in that area and for the environment on which they live.

Hi Shamim,
When refugees are kept in camp, it is the responsibility of UN and concerned government to provide necessary facilities for survival. The refugees Bangladesh had to resolve to felling trees as fuel for cooking possibly because there isn't alternative. Also, the environmental pollution in that area shows the nonavailability or inefficient sanitation workers and officers in the camp.

Hello shamim, I am glad for this news, on what refugees are doing to that climate. And this needs to be changed as soon as possible or you will find that whole district suffering from desertification. It is very true, the UN and Bangladesh government should try to help you solve this problem quickly. But make sure they understand what is going there. Make them know the issue.
