IPM (Integrated Pest Management)

by Kushal Naharki | 22-09-2018 21:17 recommendations 0

Integrated pest management(IPM), also known as Integrated Pest Control(IPC) is a broad-based approach that integrates practices for economic control of pests.

IPM emphasizes the growth of a healthy crop with the least possible disruption to agro-ecosystems and encourages natural pest control mechanisms. IPM allows for safer pest control.

UN's Food and Agriculture Organization defines IPM as "the careful consideration of all available pest control techniques and subsequent integration of appropriate measures that discourage the development of pest populations and keep pesticides and other interventions to levels that are economically justified and reduce or minimize risks to human health and the environment".

Significance of IPM
•Effective
•Eco-friendly
•Less health hazardous
•Economical

The objective of IPM is not to eradicate a pest but to reduce its abundance to levels that no longer pose an economic threat to plants and animals.

Hello, thanks for the report. I think it is an interesting approach to minimise the number of pests to the safe level, instead of completely eliminate them.

    Hello Kushal!
As most problems that we face in real life are the meddle for the right balance, an integrated view of such problems are pivotal. So, in that sense, the IPM really seems to be a needed strategy on pest control for better soil conditions!
    Thanks for the report :)

    Hey there Kushal!

I was first introduced to the IPM system by Yves, but you have further clarified the system in the most simplicity manner. This mechanism is very practical and environmentally sensitive. The fact that the UN have already shed more light on it means that it is a practice that they recommend to many farmers.

Thank you for such an insight report Kushal!
