At first i would like to apologize for not posting reports regularly. Because of my exam I could barely post 5-6 reports after being ambassador. Now exams are over, I will try to post informative and knowledgeable reports. I hope all ambassadors; mentors and other people will read my article and gain something. Rhinoceros Horn Trimming Horn trimming in rhinoceros, it sounds unnatural but it is very important step to protect rhinos against poachers. 5-8 Rhinos are poached for their horns everyday in Africa for the illegal rhino market in Asia. Hornless rhinos are not desirable by poachers. We may have a question, can rhino survive without horn? Most definitely remember they?re still massive, incredibly strong, and fully armored. Many parks and reserves find their rhino survival and reproduction to be higher as a result of trimming. One of the primary reasons a rhino has a horn is to fight other rhino over territory and females. These fights are often to death. Horn is a keratinous structure so it can grow back like other keratinous structures in nature like nails and hairs. Rhino horns are trimmed every 2 years. Cutting horn is not painful; it is same like cutting nails and hairs. |

Hello Deepak, how did your exams go?! :)
Just reading this report, I was not sure about trimming down horns of rhinos is appropriate or not since they could literally lose their symbols and essential part for their mating.
Engaging into the wild life is not considered to be 'recommended', but speed of poaching rhinos is way faster than breeding speed of rhinos over their generations. So we literally do not have other options to protect and conserve rhino species.
It is not just a case of rhino : I read many articles that argue African elephants started not to grow their ivories as too many elephants were killed for poachers, resulting in fast genetic change to prevent growth of ivory to 'survive' from poaching.
The best way is just to let them live as they wish and do not engage into wild life such as trimming down their horns and so on.
Thanks for your report, and hope they can live as they wish in the nature without any engagement or poaching activities of human beings :)

Hello Deepak
The importance of monitoring poaching is comparatively better known than other ways to help Rhinos out and this report is truly interesting that it suggest other ways!
Thanks for informing us ways to actually help Rhinos survive by Horn trimming.
Nicely written report :)

Hello Deepak Dada
Thank you for giving us this information. It seems to be small and common topic but it's really an important part to be considered for the protection and security of Rhinos. I believe that we will not just consider the survival of Rhinos as major issues but also look after it's security too.
'Prevention Is Better Than Cure.' Remembering this quote , I will move ahead believing we can take care of Rhinos more sincerely.

Deepak,
Sincerely, your report is the first to read about an animal called Rhino. Horn cutting/trimming is one of the ways to tame an animal and prevent such from getting injured.
Thanks for informing me about Rhino Deepak.
