Organic Farming

In the recent few years, there has been a  larger degree of awareness among people about the negative effects of chemical-based farming, which is significantly dependent on synthetic pesticides and fertilizers. Conventional farming relies heavily on these toxic substances, which enter the food chain, pollute the groundwater sources, accumulate in living organisms' bodies by biological magnification and end up causing a great deal of harm to the ecosystem.
So, the need of the hour is to research and develop alternate systems that are ecologically sustainable and complement efforts to preserve the environment. Such alternate methods of agriculture can be called 'Organic Farming'.
This method of cultivation is supplemented by biological pest control, manure, compost etc. and opts to undertake practices such as crop rotation and drop irrigation to avoid over-straining cultivable land. It produces safe, healthy and nutritious food without damaging the environment.
It replenishes and safeguards the stock of natural resources in human possession. Moreover, there is an growing demand for such organically grown food to provide food safety, security and adequate nourishment to people around the world.
Organic farming is very beneficial to both producers and consumers. It relies on cheap, organic inputs as opposed to expensive chemical-based agricultural agents. It ensures environmental safety while producing food that has a high nutritional value.
The challenges that lie before us to promote and encourage organic farming are many. Organic farming is still relatively unpopular due to lack of appropriate agricultural policies, as well as inadequate infrastructural facilities. In order to overcome these hurdles, the relevant authorities must commit themselves to incentivize organic farming.
A wonderful initiative is the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements, which represents close to 800 affiliates in 117 countries. Its mission is to, "Lead, unite and assist the organic movement in its full diversity." and its vision is the "worldwide adoption of ecologically, socially and economically sound systems, based on the Principles of Organic Agriculture."
Inspite of many challenges, organic farming helps in sustainable development and allows us to enjoy a better standard of food safety and security.

    Hello Natasha
Organic agriculture should be more introduced to various regions so that people could grow crops in an eco friendlier way, which is actually a win-win strategy for everyone. And it is good news that current technology such as blockchain could guarantee the transparency of the supply chain!
    Thanks for the report :)

Hello Natasha, I also do get to see a lot of crops, vegetables from organic farming.
However, many report and TV programs doubted how all of these can be 'truly' organic and far from the usage of pesticides.
Not all the vegetables were organic (as you doubted :( ), but the main problem was as : 'Organic farming is still relatively unpopular due to lack of appropriate agricultural policies, as well as inadequate infrastructural facilities. In order to overcome these hurdles, the relevant authorities must commit themselves to incentivize organic farming' (as mentioned in your report).
More specific and discrete plans for individual farms and type of crops must be followed up with proper management and agriculture knowhows!
    Thanks for your report!

    Good day Natasha!

Organic farming used to be the main form of food produce way back. In Egypt, the Nile River used to adequately nourish its banks allowing for Egyptians to plough and farm. The use of manure from livestock gave the soil the necessary nutrients to enhabit crops. But due technological and industrial advancements, producing nutritious food is something farmers cannot afford.

Nowadays, profit beats value produced products and that is a system we need to annul and make people aware of the health impacts of producing healthier goods.

    Thank you for reporting Natasha!

Organic farming is surely a better way of doing agriculture in an sustainable way but the question that aries is that can organic farming provide food as per the demand to solve the food insecurity crises. Although organic farming is more environment friendly and sustainable, with half of the world still being insecure to food security we must pay attention to production to feed the current world too.
