Nepal’s Ministry of Education, Science and Technology launched the country’s first Green School Guideline in November 6 2018, in partnership with WWF Nepal and Sense Nepal. The guideline has been launched with an aim to promote conservation education in government schools across Nepal and build awareness and engagement of school-level children in conservation. The guideline builds on the government directive to promote Eco Clubs in government schools made public on the occasion of World Environment Day in 2016. Speaking at the event, Giriraj Mani Pokhrel, Minister for Education, Science and Technology said, “I am thankful to the Centre for Education and Human Resource Development and partners for the timely launch of the Green School Guideline. The right of children and young people to live in a clean environment needs to be upheld and through a quick coordination and implementation of the guideline from the federal to the local levels we will need to look at this as a broader campaign towards this end.” The eight-part guideline promotes the concept of ‘One Garden, One School’ and schools as a Living Laboratory while engaging school children in conservation awareness and tree plantation programs. The guideline will be implemented with the coordination between the local, state and federal governments, school management committees and development and conservation agencies in Nepal. The guideline not only sheds light on the commitment shown by the government of Nepal towards the environment but is also an important step towards developing the next generation of environmental leaders through education and community service. “WWF Nepal launched its conservation education program in 1994 with the establishment of its first Eco club in Bardia; the Green School Guideline cements our efforts to bring conservation education to children from a young age,” stated Dr. Ghana S Gurung, Country Representative of WWF Nepal. “The program has grown further to engage young people through The Generation Green campaign that aims to build a generation of youth committed to conservation and sustainable development in Nepal.” This is very adorable work done by Nepal government with the help of WWF and I personally want to form eco clubs in different schools around my community. Hello Deepak, hope my country adopts 'Green School' system to our elementary, middle and high schools. It is not easy to adopt such system totally as there are way too many subjects and contents to teach students in my country, but apparently what we are studying for and living for is simply just to live in a society with better environment for 'all'.

Education is the ultimate way we could change how people care about the environment so that more people could voluntarily contribute to the recovering and protection of our nature.
And it is really nice to know that Green School Guideline is now on progress by WWF Nepal and Sense Nepal.
It really seems the Nepal government is putting great effort to save the environment!

I have been to Nepal and I had noticed many developmental work happening there. Many of our Tunza members and fellow ambassadors are from Nepal and they are doing fruitful work for the environment conservation in Nepal. Thanks for sharing once again the great work being done by Nepal Government.
