Research on Effect of Priming on Drought Condition

by Kushal Naharki | 01-01-2019 13:11 recommendations 1

Wishing you all Happy and Prosperous New Year 2019

I am an undergraduate student of Agriculture at Institute of Agriculture and Animal Science, TU, Nepal. We have to perform project work in Agronomy, Horticulture and Animal Science. In our last semester, we had our project work in Horticulture where we conducted the research in ¡°Effect of Pinching in yield and growth attributes of Marigold¡±. Due to several factors like problem in variety, lack of fencing and delay in harvesting we couldn¡¯t obtain the significant result but it was a great learning experience.

In this semester we have our project work in Agronomy. We are conducting research on ¡°Effect of Seed Priming by different chemicals On Germination Characteristic of Maize in Drought Condition¡±. I am more excited to this project work because it is also related to environment as this result can provide a significant solution to a climate change as there has been drastic change in the rainfall pattern due to climate change. The result is focused on how we can increase the germination of maize in drought condition by using the method of priming.

Priming is the method of treating seed with chemicals to increase the germination and vigor in the seed. With the significant change in the rainfall pattern due to climate change there has been reduction in germination of the seed due to the drought condition being created. Maize is the second most important crop of Nepal after rice and major crop of the hill region of Nepal. With the help of priming we can increase the germination test which can be the adaptation measure to climate change and ensure food security.

I will be keeping you all updated with the further information regarding the project. Currently, we taking the data¡¯s of germination of maize in different drought condition in lab created by using chemicals after by priming the maize with mannitol.

Climate Change isn¡¯t Hoax. Let¡¯s act before it¡¯s too late.

    Hello Kushal, Happy New Year!
Must have had a tough day doing a new project but thanks for sharing your priceless experience with us on the first day of 2019.
Concerning your project, I once 'imagined' of the method you mentioned in the field of agronomy but never expected that it could become valid in reality :)
Keep up with your work and please share more stories about the new sequence or finding throughout your project!

    Hello Kushal
Really nice to see how you are applying your major expertise to environmental matters.
The way how this project can contribute to the solving of climate change caused problems is quite amazing.
Will be waiting to hear about the updated news of your project :)
Thanks for sharing and happy new year!

    Hey there Kushal!

Happy New year... 2019 is finally here :D

I pretty much learnt a lot with regards to seed germination from this one report in the first day of 2019 and I like to thank you for that.

This is quite and advancement with regards to the dry condition we have because of climate change. I hope that this is a practice that will eventually go into a pilot stage/phase. I cannot wait to get an update report on this project that you have been embarking on because it's truly interesting and a game changer towards this battle we have with climate change.

Thank you for updating us with your report Kushal! Stay joyous... Stay green!

    Yours sincerely
    R.
