The monthly theme of January is something I kept on thinking about and reached no conclusion with until recently A report published on June 27, 2018 by thenational.ae stated that,The average UAE resident produces 2.7 kilograms of waste per day, according to Dubai Carbon, both food and packaging. It is estimated about Dh13billion worth of food is wasted by businesses and consumers in the country. The amount of business keep on increasing day by day. Food waste is something our community here does struggle from. Hence it requires concentrated efforts. Unfortunately I cannot do much about that as I am short on time so I hope my small project, manages to make a small difference. Looking at my little brother attend his nursery made me think ¡°wouldn¡¯t it be very phenomenal to raise those little children to become friends of the earth?¡± And so, I started considering giving a class to those future leaders, inclusive of activities about climate change without giving them a lot of information. My project includes the creation of a video that demonstrates how those fruit seeds we often throw can eventually grow into plants. I can teach them to eat for a climate stable planet. For example, reducing eating meat products alone without vegetables, even if they contain nutrients, they contain fats as well, additionally they are served after slaughtering animals. They can have an activity of squeezing oranges to make a fresh juice and comparing its taste to that of a factory one. Additionally, some kids often throw away their food if its not tasty or if they¡¯re full. Since they aren¡¯t aware of the composter device the least thing they could do is give leftovers of food to animals they see anywhere. By showing them the effects of food waste on earth, they might make a difference. Food waste has a great impact on climate change, the researchers found that the world's food supply chain in 2010 generated 13.7 billion metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions. Meat, aquaculture, eggs and dairy use about 83 percent of the world's farmland and contribute 56 to 58 percent of food-related emissions. The researchers found that shifting from current diets to a diet without animal products would cut greenhouse gas emissions by nearly half. I believe the best method for the younger generation to learn is by visuals or pictures. This younger generation might one day, save the earth and make a difference. If I manage to succeed in this project and receive enough attention, Im considering visiting orphanages and giving them a workshop, or one for people of determination, I can also attend fairs and give workshops to children, teenagers and adults if they¡¯re interested. |
