The bitter truth- ¡°Yes, Climate is fluctuating.¡±

by Asmita Gaire | 08-03-2019 21:36 recommendations 0

Being a resident of lowland i.e.Terai, the eagerness to play with snow was utmost because we have got to travel a long distance and in the specific winter season to behold snow. But the year 2019 took a overturn, the place where people never thought snow would ever shower got heavy snowfall. But people weren¡¯t happy although getting a chance to play with snow because this snow was result of climate change which people never wished of.

When the world is busy towards the subject of climate change. The first place that comes on spotlight is Antarctica and Arctic and less commonly mountains of Asia. But the mountains of Asia is in pitiful conditions. The Himalaya mountains will lose more than one-third of their ice by the end of the century, says a report entitled ¡®Hindu Kush Himalaya Assessment: Climate Change, Sustainability, and Hope¡¯, collated by the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development. If the targeted climate goals are not achieved, and the rate of greenhouse gas emission continues, the report adds that the Himalaya could lose two-thirds of its glaciers.

This year, when we recently visited Ghandruk, place at an attitude of 1940 metre and communicated with people; they addressed, ¡° How much cold it is but there¡¯s never a snowfall here.¡± But this year miracle happened and there was a snowfall and heavy hailstones and this miracle is not other than a climate change. Moreover the same situation happened in other parts of country as well like Balaju, Dadeldhura, Chandragiri, Gulmi and many other places of Kathmandu. Not only this, other extreme results are also clearly notified like irregular rainfall, asymmetrical weather pattern, lower agricultural productivity and outbreak of various diseases in a region. Although Nepal is a landlocked country, any effect in nearby sea causes a large impact in Nepal¡¯s climate and weather. Though the weather is sunny, in no time it changes owing to the westerly wind, which has entered the country from the western region.

All these activities are due to our own deeds. Human has to become more conscious regarding this before it¡¯s too late. Concerning this, Nepal¡¯s government has banned 5 insecticides use recently. Time to time, National Climate Change Conference is being carried out and the latest one on Jan 12, 2019 at Gufadanda, Jyamire, organized by the Federation of District Coordination Committees inaugurated by President Bidya Devi Bhandari included maximum women participants where she focused, ¡°Development shouldn¡¯t be destructive but decorative.¡±

We all respect development but only the positive and sustainable development are praised and should be regarded. Any act in one part of nation directly affects another part and any action in one nation straightly brings a large impact in another nation; that¡¯s why, joint action from all places is must to bring a uniform and sustainable change for a reason.

    Hello Asmita

Thank you for addressing climate change issue in Nepal and sharing it with others. Abnormal climate is occurring all over the world and now it became so clear that the number of people who deny global warming is decreasing. Also, it was very impressive that you also wrote about governmental changes in order to deal with the issues. I really like how you end your report with highlighting importance of global cooperation. I can??t agree with you more on this. It??s because even though climate change and abnormal change are the results of everyone living in the earth, only some of them are concerned and take initiatives. Thank you again for this great report. Keep it up!

    Hi Asmita,

Thank you for addressing the climate change issues that are happening in Nepal, and personally I feel really bad as I was reading this article. I totally agree with you about all these abnormal environmental phenomenons are results of human deeds. Indeed we should have thought about potential environmental damage prior to our development. At the same time, I am delighted to hear that Nepal government is currently taking more aggressive actions in preserving our land such as banning insecticides. In my opinion, regarding the climate change, all the countries on earth should collaborate together because climate change is a globally problem.

I love your report and pleas keep it up!
