Challenge plastic bags from today |

Whenever I travel to any places, bag has always become one of my, the most faithful friend. It's my locker wherever I travel. Just in one swipe, I get anything I want. It's the safest store wherever I go from local market to supermarket; from school to party. Sometimes, it makes me think I might have ill treated the environment while fulfilling my desires. Use of bags especially plastic bag is the most threatening act. When I became aware about it, I started using clothes bag wherever I travel. Even when I visit grocery stores, I carry my own bag. When I forget to carry my own bag and in case I have to take plastic bags from shopkeeper, in next visit; I return to them and they are enormously happy with my response. Similarly, it makes me feel happy when news like ban in black plastics is heard. But in border of Nepal, black plastics is still in use. Black plastics are sent to landfill instead of recycling because the pigment that produces the dark colour means the material cannot be sorted by the machines on standard recycling sorting lines. They are actually killing the planet. In supermarket, use of plastics is declining nowdays. And the various act is made emphasizing on tackling excessive use of plastic- e.g. the bags containing less than 20 micron- are harmful for environment. Various process is on going to reduce plastic production and increase reuse and recycle of plastic for purpose. In this case, when I was shopping with my friends in Sunauli that connects Nepal and India; it made me felt astonished to see the bag that looks exactly like plastics but is of clothes that's easily reusable and decomposable. Nowadays, I also use the bag that has been one of the product of "Junk Art Competition". Environment might have believed to have it's faithful friend and that's none other than human themselves. But are we eligible enough to count ourselves as their the most loyal friend? Let's challenge plastic bags, are you ready?

Hi Asmita,
This is such an inspiring report! It was so great to see that you started banning black plastics and I would like to encourage all the ambassadors to participate in this great challenge! I would like to share with you that personally I've started to use Eco bags and tumbler cups from about a year ago and I feel proud about my commitment. As an individual, you have stepped big forward and I believe you will definitely be an inspiration to those who are around you!

Thank you for a wonderful report regarding the use of plastic. I am glad to know about the initiative you have taken to beat plastic pollution. Keep it up with your activities. I too have been using Eco Bags as the replacement of plastic bags. If we all become responsible and reduce the use of single use plastic bags we can together beat plastic pollution.

Hello Asmita!
Thank you for sharing your wonderful experience! You're right. Plastic products are so comfortable but they became the biggest threat to our environments. Most of all, pigmented plastics such as black plastic bags or colored plastic bottles are the worst ones as they can't be recycled. However, it's even better not to use any type of plastic products. Of course it would be very challenging, but we can start from using cloth bags as like you did.
