Ladybugs say ,"I am good for plants." |

Everyday, I make a visit to hostel locality as I am appointed as hostel in charge. Today, I was astonished when my eye caught lady bird covered by bed net in a pot. Later on I closely observed it, and I found that in a pot there was cabbage and aloevera being planted which was covered by bed net with some lady birds inside it. I was highly curious about it and I found that lady birds are very beneficial for plants and environment. In addition to this, I also noticed that the pot used was recycled material and bed net was also not in use since months and students used it for purpose to cover the pot to prevent escape of lady bird. There are about 5,000 different species of ladybirds in the world. These much loved critters are also known as lady beetles or ladybugs, and in many cultures they¡¯re considered good luck. They come in many different colours and patterns, but the most familiar in the UK is the seven-spot ladybird, which has a shiny, red-and-black body. Most people like ladybirds because they are pretty, graceful and harmless to humans. But farmers love them because they eat aphids and other plant-eating pests. And boy do they eat – in it¡¯s year-long life, a single seven-spot ladybird can gobble more than 5000 aphids! This act was highly appreciable by seniors. Everyday I find something that teaches me with new things and put me into thought when I visit the surroundings and nature. Nature is highly adorable and is a open book.

Hi Asmita,
Thank you writing about our good friend - ladybugs. I love ladybugs as well!
However, sadly I have seen many reports which talk about decreasing number in population of ladybugs due to the environmental changes. At the same time, there are some reports that talk about the disastrous consequence that we may face after ladybug's extinction.
I think we should definitely take care ladybugs, fostering a safe environment!
Thank you for bringing up this issue, and I am looking forward to read your next report.

Thanks for the description of lady bird connection with nature in such a beautiful way. In our childhood we have learnt so many poems on Lady bird. In fact lady bird is an embodiment of colours, brightness and luck.

Hello Asmita!
Thank you for your beautiful report! I like how you??re learning everyday from nature. I think this really shows how you??re highly interested in environments around you. Ladybugs are indeed good friends of plants. Some farmers intentionally put ladybugs in their plants to get rid of aphids, which is much eco-friendly than pesticides.
Thank you again for sharing information about the insects often seen in everyday life!
Keep up the good work!
